I just think Sean mentioned things he really thought he could get in the game for launch but as the deadline neared it became more difficult than the team thought. They got a delay in the hope of getting it in but still it wasn't long enough and they knew they could not delay it further, so they announced it went gold and prayed they could put everything in the first patch. That's why they insisted that people shouldn't review it until the patch was launched. But still, although the patch was substantial, they couldn't quite meet the deadline. All the content (much of which is already there but people still think it isn't) will eventually be added, and 'more'.

Sean's reticence on the matter at the moment is the right thing to do. There are far too many outlets, forums and people with agendas to ever hope to satisfy anyone and it will likely just cause yet another round of negativity. It's best to be quiet, work hard and get that content finished.

Who would've thought that PR would go bad if it's not done by a PR person.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Yeah, from the clips they showed, Sean could have more clear on features of the game, rather than be vague or outright lie about them.Though in the end, I guess it doesn't matter. The game still sold well.

I agree with him, simply because the level of hate Sony is getting over the game is completely unjustified. It's not their game at the end of the day, and they had no direct role in it's development. Hello Games is an indie developer, and Sony's only role was marketing and helping the game through all it's legal issues. Hopefully Hello Games fixes it and makes it the game people were anticipating. As far as Sony is concerned, they need to be left alone about it, and focus on their own in house developing.

Don't see anything wrong with what Yoshida said. It's pretty much what it is. Sean Murray said what he said and we are where we are. Hello Games said the game will be something that it isn't and now we are all living with the consequences.

The problem Sony have is they published the game and they haven't helped deal with the issues or be transparent about them. Whether it's their responsibility or not they could have said something sooner and have helped minimise the shit storm by creating a road map with clarification, but both the developer and publisher have failed to do this.

They didn't publish the game so they would have had little or no part in that.

Sony marketed the game and that means they had their people overseeing the entire project. They knew what it was and they knew what was being promised. To go on record like this, basically throwing the developers under the buss and taking zero blame is wrong imo.

That is not what marketing means.  Marketing can be as little as taking the materials you are given and turning them into ads.  It certainly does not have to mean overseeing the entire project.  They would have had little control over what Murray said to the press, what features he promised, or what would be in the game, especially since the limited exclusivity contract came well after development was underway.

As far as I've seen, development and PR were all handled by Hello Games.

Was Microsoft responsible for the content of the latest Tomb Raider game?  Did they oversee the entire project?  They published it and did marketing for it, after all.  Does anyone really believe that?  Hopefully people know better, as it's a Squaresoft game.  It's the same situation.

you have no idea what you're talking about.

"There is only one race, the pathetic begging race"

well... the game sold well and with ps4pro around the corner it shouldn't be a problem to turn this game into what people knew from the e3 trailers. it's only a bad pr strategy if you leave the game in it's current state and don't expand on it. for example: try to merge no mans sky with eve online because those games are pretty similar in it's core and could benefit from eachother.
