Great console and was definitely before its time in terms of visual output as it supported 480P via digitial component out which results in amazing picture quality on a high-definition TV.

Yea, I was playing Burnout 2 awhile back and the graphics still hold up decent.  Need to rebuy Rogue Squadron 2.

Try score official component cables(third party cables were never made sadly). Expensive as hell but looks great really. I managed to score a set for $250AUS(about $185US) which is a relative bargain considering they sell for over $300US most of the time...

Lol those cables are worth that much now?  I have official component cables for the GC.  I believe they cost like 30 dollars back in the day.  I even got the GBA player add on for the GC with of course the disc that is needed for it to work.

Some completed listings sell for less at about $250-300US.... It is crazy... I got mine from an Australian seller who didn't list it on international Ebay so his audience was quite limited :P And he was moving overseas.

A few years ago they were like $150, which is still stupid. Can't beat purism though - I am sure that a component-cable Wii playing GC games will output just as well. The only way to get component out of that GBA player (which is an awesome device) is the super expensive way, though.

If people here didn't know why exactly the cables are so expensive, it's because the Nintendo design is proprietary... I don't remember exactly how, but it makes the cables nigh on impossible to replicate.

I totally agree, even $150 for a set of cables is stupid. The Wii component cable is very close but not as good because it does not tap directly into the digital signal but most won't even notice the difference. There were never any third party cables because the Gamecube component cable contains a chipset in the port that essentially acts as a verification device as well as passing on the digital signal:

Yeah, I thought it was a chip... didn't wanna say it without being sure, though.

Too bad that the chip is unavailable, as is a datasheet for it. It's indeed proprietary, I guess :/

Happy Birthday

My favourite game of all time debuted on the GameCube, The Wind Waker!

Tales of Symphonia is also one my favourites
