Forums - Sony - How to get HDR 4K working on your PS4 Pro with full surround sound if...

That ARC return is no better than using optical s/pdif. Just use that instead until you upgrade the receiver. It sucks going back to lossy compressed audio, yet good 100+ watt per channel amps aren't cheap either.

I'll wait another year, everything should be more affordable by then and HDR better realized.

Just wait until 21:9 (or 7:3 if you want) becomes the new aspect ratio standard (in my dreams at least).

What I don't get is this IMAX stuff.

I've been to movies that have imax sections, like BvS. To me it looks like all it does is remove the bottom and top black bar and have that also showing stuff.

So why don't they just all switch to "imax" format and use the whole freakin screen.

I'm sure the ratio isn't the same exactly, but still, why make movies in a different size than TV's size. And no, don't just ZOOM in and have less stuff on the edges, but just add stuff above and below. Makes no sense.

I wish lol! They have one right now for $2500 at best buy. BUT with the holidays coming up I am thinking the prices will go down closer to $2000 in the next month or so. Which is what Iam aiming for because then I will buy one to go with my receiver. I upgraded all of my audio equipment first....I had been using the same Onkyo set since 2001 lol. So I bought all new speakers, a new sub and a new receiver. Now I just need to upgrade my TV and I am set for the next 10yrs because I won't be upgrading before then lol.

But yeah the LG OLED TVs the pictures is amaing....some people have been buying the Vizio 4K TVs because of the crazy low prices and after seeing a Vizio in comparission to the SONY, Samsung and LG TVs it looks cheap.

Cool. Could you link to one of the LGs you have your eyes on?

I was looking at this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-55-class-54-6-diag--oled-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-silver/5252800.p?skuId=5252800

And ths one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-55-class-54-6-diag--oled-2160p-smart-3d-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-black/5010100.p?skuId=5010100

But I want the 65in which is around $3999 right now.

I personally think the LG OLED TVs are the best on the market at the moment. I say go for one of those if you they are in your price range....which for me they are not at the moment lol.

Errrr I can say that the OLED we had in Brazil were like 1080p OLED for the price of 4k LED. And the features on the OLED were subpar to LED models so I didn't buy, besides LG usually delivering a lower quality product.

Really? Well that sucks, but with the two TVs that I was looking at from LG they were very good quality TVs even compared to Sony and Samsung. Just looking at picture quality though it was like the OLED TV looked better than botht he Sony and the Samsung and I had the Samsung 4k TV and returned it because it shut off and would not come back on after only 1 month.....it was crazy I think it was part of the j7 series.

This is typical in the a/v market.  No need for such unwarranted banter.

I have a reciever and none of my hookups are this complicated.

Just as building a pc is not complicated. You take the cords and plug them into where the label says so, or in regards to computers, usually color coded, lol.

Most receivers have HDMI labels for TV in/out. DVD/Blu Ray, Cable, ect.

It should be as easy as buying a PS4pro and plugging it into an open HDMI slot on ones Receiver.

Fine because you said in a previous post "Yea I figured if you have 4k ready devices, TV, AV and what not it would be just plug and play."

That is true provided that all of your equipment is 4K ready.  This work around is for those whose receivers that are NOT 4k ready.  This work around is a legit procedure in the a/v market as said earlier when required.  The "weakest link" in your a/v set up is the bottleneck that prevents you from taking full advantage of the original source's output.  This is not a "Sony thing."  You've already voiced your discontent over PlayStation and Sony in previous threads when the PS4 Pro was announced, and this is nothing but another attempt to bash Sony.  But your ignorance over a/v equipment caught you with your pants down.

Damn, they have different names in North America.

I wonder if the Sony XBR65X930D is the same as Sony 65" LED-TV KD65XD9305 here for a bit over $3000.

And the Sony XBR65Z9D  should be Sony 65" LED-TV KD-65ZD for $6000 (lol).

These TVs are not OLED, right? I would prefer an OLED, I heard they are the best.

What does "HD-10" mean on your TV?

Why do you set the limit at 65 inches? That is extremely huge. I think even in a big living room 55 inches is fine. But I really like even bigger. Yeah, I'm gonna start targeting 65 inches.

I set at 65" because that is what I got for 6-9ft distance from TV, smaller than that there really isn't any point on 4K for TV unless you are a lot closer to the TV. If you go for 49-55" I would say 3-5ft is the distance you would really see difference from 1080p to 4k.

Since its a big investiment better go big and solve issue than to think it wasn't enough.

As far as I know Sony isn't making OLED currently.

HD-10 is one HDR "protocol", but it isn't the same as full HDR and doesn't have the same richness. Too bad I didn't know that before buying my TV. But the one I got was 10k R$ (3k USD equivalent at the time) and the upper grade was 15k (5k USD) so I wouldn't have bought it kkkkk.

But if you have a smaller place and 55" is enough than you will be able to save a lot.

1.7k for 900 series and 1.4k for 800 series... But since I had 46" 1080p that was gorgeous I didn't see a point on gaining only 9" and 4k so wouldn't buy it for the living room.

Thanks for all the answers.

So this HD-10 protocol, it isn't the full resolution of 3960 x 2160? And you spent $3000 on it?

This is what's bothering me a lot right, I don't dare to buy a new TV because I'm so afraid something better will come soon after and my device will feel obsolete. And prices are so hard to determine. These new OLED TVs for $2500 and up, what if they are only $1500 one year from now?

How much? Can you get one under $2000 lol?

$2,500 is what you'll be paying for the 55"

That's what I just got.

Haven't got to try out any 4k content and what not yet. Only hooked up to PS3/Wii U and antenna tv. Antenna tv only comes in at 1080i, and ps3 plays me blu rays. Gonna see what Black Friday has for 4k player

But just on what I'm watching, it already is much better than my other 65" 4k tv that is not OLED. But there has been one major wow moment for me, so far. Just watching movies, the first thing was the black bars on top and bottom. They are completely OFF. When they say the blacks are black, meaning the lights actually turn off, they are not kidding. I always hated, still do, that movies are not the same size as tv screen's. You know you have that bar on top and bottom. But with OLED, the bar is completely black, you don't notice it at all. It's like your tv got shorter. On all other tv's the black is just a super super super super dark black, you can still tell there is tv screen there. This it's like the same color as teh black trim of the tv.

Then when scenes go pitch black was a real wow moment. It was like I turned my tv completely off. It was completely black. Not the as I said black, but you can still tell tv is on. It was completely black. With non OLED, the directv could be off and thus the screen black, and no lights on the house, yet you could still walk around and somewhat see cause teh black wasn't really black. It gave off a faint light. Not in this case. THe TV might as well be off, it's so black.

Or here, go to 5:02 or so and look at the non-halo effect of OLED.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ogjW7NLD8w

Just small tings that I never cared about before, that just impress me so much seeing. But even in just the first few seconds of the video, you can tell on wahtever monitor your watching how much better the colors look on the LG tv on the right. It makes that cloud scene just look so majestic. Watching the rest of this video, they bring up some Judder issue. I've never experienced it yet, but as I said i only watch movies and tv shows. Games I've played on it so far has only been Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker.  Hardly a pressing game for testing anything.

That's what I'm talking about! When I saw an OLED in the electronics store I was completely blown away. I couldn't believe it.

So you have a 55inch LG OLED B6?

But what about HDR? Are the LG OLED TVs HDR?

If you're waiting for a decent OLED 55" 4K TV I'd advise holding off a year. The technology is rapidly advancing and prices will fall a lot over the next year. If you don't mind paying over $2,000 then go for it now.

But I want that so bad, the 65 inch. The LG OLED is the best TV on the market. Finally videophile quality is affordable, almost lol

The 65in is the one I was looking at when I went to Best Buy here and it blew me away compared to the others lol. But the prices are dropping, so we should see some even better prices pretty soon! I am hoping for some crazy good deals in the next few months!

Nothing is perfect yet the E6 comes very close. Burn in is not much of a concern anymore, image retention still happens.
http://televisions.reviewed.com/features/what-to-know-about-oled-screen-burn-in-problems-causes-image-retention

It's also not as bright in HDR, best viewed in a darker environment
http://ca.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/e6

Anyway the 65" E6 is $8000 here lol. Plus I'm used to a 92" projector screen, going down below 85" not really worth that much to me.
I'll just dream of this for a bit longer http://www.sonypremiumhome.com/projectors/VPL-VW5000ES.php
Perhaps I should move the couch halfway forward and save a lot of money :/
