My plans exactly.
I plan to replace my cheap (600 €) 46'' Full HD TV and just decided that my next one will be a 55'' 4K OLED with HDR-10 and Dolby Vision.
Current price for the cheaper of the only two available models: 4.990 € (Loewe Bild 7.55).
Which pushes my next TV purchase from 2016 to around 2019.
Nothing else planned at the moment. The currently available and recently announced console SKUs and VR systems don't interest me.

Sounds like a good choice for a first build. My one next year will hopefully be sporting an i7 since I'm wanting to record and edit footage myself (Streaming won't be often since my upload sucks). DDR4 I'm not so keen on since it's only giving that bit more perf rather than a bigger gap like it was between DDR2 to 3 (options will still be there though). Probably going to keep my PSU since it's more than enough as well as my Corsair Vengeance C70 and SSD. The new build will basically consist of a new mobo, CPU, GPU while being paired with a new SSD and HDD, possibly DDR4, though I might just stick with DDR 3 16gb kit. Gaming wise I'd probably go for the Western Digital Black series 2TB. So far it's served me well with it's space and performance. Almost forgot to add that I might go for a Geforce G-sync monitor at some point, though that's entirely dependent on the models and their price ranges next year. |
If you buy a Skylake/upcoming Zen CPU or later, you'll have to get DDR4 though because DDR3 isn't compatible with the new mobo range.

Or to be more correct DDR3 is not compatible with the CPU architecture and as a result no motherboard that supports the CPU will allow yo to use DDR3 since it has a Chipset that catered to the CPU. But that is just splitting hairs. :D

Just a couple things to note on what you are sacrificing with this TV vs a high end model. And truth be told it is not much considering the savings.
Audio: The audio is abosolute jumk on this TV according to the couple of reviews I have read. Don't buy this unless you use an AVR and speakers.
Video: It is not as bright as other TV's in it's class so HDR will not be as impactful, and it is not Dolby Vision (best HDR format so far) compatible.
Viewing angle is not very good so if you have seating that is than 20 Degrees off from center know that color quality is instantly lost at the seating edges.
Oh and Light bleed is kinda bad in super dark scenes.
Other than than the color quality is great, it is a good size and price. It is 4K, has decent HDR and it's upscaler is one of the better ones.

well I'll be using the platinum headphones so audio isn't an issue and always sit centered so the viewing angle is ok
the brightness is a bit of a turnoff and I certainly want the best HDR. However this would just be a starter to try out 4k and when our 05 Samsung 720p plasma is finally replaced in our family room (not where I game but I'm a movie fanatic and plan on getting UHD blurays as soon as I have something to watch them on and want Netflix in 4k) I will probably be looking at a higher end model with a bit higher price tag. I still think it'll be a big jump from my 1080p Samsung (I usually think of Samsung as a lower end TV compared to Sony) $300 32" I have had for 4 years.
