This is why I think NX has to be able to run smart apps. They're not going to get far if they force kids to choose between their tablet and NX; NX needs to accomodate the apps that those kids are already playing (Angry Birds, Pokemon Go, apps like Snapchat) and *then* add Nintendo gaming into their diet.

If they get stubborn and try to tell kids to only accept their walled ecosystem and forget about those other smart apps ... they're going to get themselves into trouble again.

How Nintendo does that ... an Android fork or a custom Nintendo OS that still can somehow run mobile apps or something that allows mobile app makers to port their app very, very, very simply, I don't know. They need to figure that out though.

I don't know about that. You mean that the NX should run Android apps? You have heavily argued this before, haven't you?

Where did you get this idea? Did you come up with it yourself lol?

It sounds like it could be a good strategy, but talking just from a pure emotional perspective, I hate Android and Apple so I wouldn't want to have these apps on my future NX.

No need for either.

There's an app called bluestacks which lets you run any google play store app without the need for an android device. very useful.

Nintendo can always release 2 versions of NX: one with Android in mind and another for Apple store.

If Nintendo releases just one version it's like cutting your potential market in half. And if the point of it is attracting kids who have app store they don't want a console with Android - and vice-versa.
Unless, there was a way that you could buy a NX and download the OS that you desired. That way everyone could be happy.

The dual OS is nothing new to tablet makers like Teclast, so...

It won't be "real" Android or iOS ... it'll still be a Nintendo custom OS, they just want the apps.

The thing is there's probably no chance in hell Apple would allow Nintendo to use iOS for free, whereas Android can be forked. Amazon and Blackberry already do this.

They both have the same apps that matter anyway, so it's not a big deal. If there is a iOS only app it would be able to be ported to the NX very easily most likely.

Or maybe they can even have right in the dev kit a way for Android/iOS devs to basically compile their Android/iOS app right into NX ecosystem with little/no fuss/effort.

It's not just about the games, it's a way that you don't cut your market in half: the best option would be so that both sides (iOS and Android) can be represented, thus leaving no one single consumer behind.

I know the chances of Apple sharing their OS for free are slim, but at the same time, they aren't competing. The market is not the same. Not to mention that, for it to work, you would need to own a Apple product anyway. It would be like iPhone + iPad + NX for Apple.
It could also help lure some Apple/Android users.

Isn't that the same as porting?
Nintendo can give out an option to devs to port their games, but the ideal scenario is to have one or both stores right there from day one.
If it's the real OS or a special version... what matters is that Nintendo gets them on NX. That would be a huge win!

You're right, that software does allow for that - except it also forces you to install other apps to keep using it.

Nintendo's problems resolved! If that company could do it, so can Nintendo. And Google to help optimize it, the better!

Well it's smart putting the dumbed down games on the phones for the kidsso they become accustomed to these characters.

I said it, and I'll say it again, this is the beginning of the end for Nintendo as we know it.

They're going to make a lot more games for smart devices, and their games and hardwares are going to be more and more casualised.

So long, old friend.

This is my biggest fear. I dont mind Nintendo putting games on smart devices, but I also hope they dont start dumbing down their main games to gain a casual audience.

Well it is definitely the start of a new era for Nintendo. Lets hope it doesn't go the way you predict.

On one hand maybe Nintendo's embrace of smartphones could be a net positive in that they can take out their "need" to appeal to casuals and beginner gamers on the smartphone rather than creating an entire platform to that idea and trying to balance it out so more experienced players can also play.

I'm sure they'll still make "core" Nintendo titles like Zelda and Super Mario, in fact the NX will need to now have more "epic" versions of those games to justify the need for dedicated hardware versus just making a controller on iPhone and letting everyone play that way.

For example now that "Super Mario Run" is on mobile and taking care of beginner/casual players, maybe Nintendo can push the console Mario platformers a bit. The NSMB series was really getting stagnant.

But I agree, once Nintendo gets a taste of the massive profit smartphone apps can generate ... they could very well get the wrong message and start shifting priorities. Money talks.

Weird. It never made me download anything else(besides the actual apps I want)

They already started 10 years ago. and it's just going to get worse.

That was my hope when they first announced their mobile games, but it doesn't make sense, Nintendo has no plans for core gamers, right now they are aiming at everyone or just casuals, and I don't see why that would change.

I would have been really happy if Nintendo kept taking care of core gamers alongside the casual market, but I don't see it happening. They're dumbing down their games more and more each years. Mor mario, Kirby, Animal crossing, Pokemon. Meanwhile Starfox, Metroid, and others are dying IPs.

It's just sad.
