I guess all the people with their expensive 4k HDR TVs are really upset that they can't have a cheap 4k Bluray player in a cheap console. How will they ever be able to get one of those mystical playback devices if they aren't attached to a console?

There is a cheap Blu-Ray 4K player ... it's called an XBox One S. Which is something I'm basically being forced into buying now. There's no better player for the price.

So if Sony's goal was to sell more XBox One's ... great job.

So? You and a dozen other people will now buy an X1 to watch movies on it. I hope Sony doesn't have to file bankruptcy now. Remember when the PS3 was the best selling console since its launch because it was the cheapest bluray player? Yeah, me neither.

How come people are complaining that they have to buy multiple consoles to watch movies but not to actually play games? Where's the outrage that Sony dares to release a console that does not play Microsoft or Nintendo games and that you have to buy additional hardware to play them?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I own only one bluray movie. Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete.

Lets be real here. Games sell consoles, not movies..

I would certainly prefer a PS4 pro with 4k blu-ray player for 419$ which is what it realistically would cost, than getting one without for 399$...

So basically they'll be really cheap in a year.  So when people say the scorpio will save them spending $300 on a standalone player it's a ridiculous statement.

Yeah I kinda would like to watch 4K content now though if I have a 4KTV now. Not sitting around for a year and watching 1080p or shitty stream content for a year and trying to imagine how good it would look like in actual 4K with a good bit rate.

And even "cheap in a year" still means probably like $200+ for a decent player.

The XBox One S is the best 4K Blu-Ray player for the price, which is kind of lame. It means if you have a 4KTV and you want to watch 4K movies on your TV, really your best option is to buy an XBox One now as well, on top of getting a PS4/Neo.

What if in 12 months the scorpio costs $600 and the Ps Pro costs $350 and a UHD blu ray $50? Or even add an extra $100 what's still only $500.

You have every right to be upset but you have to realise the mass market does not care.  Very few people will be bothered by this.  Unlucky for you,  but lucky for me who couldn't care less.  A cheaper ps4 pro that focuses on the games.  That's what I want and I imagine the sales over the next year will prove it's what the market wants.

I doubt 4K players are going from $300 at the cheapest ($700 for other models) to $50 in a year. Not even DVD or Blu-Ray dropped that quickly.

Lol that's not cheap.  They'll be cheap in a year.  And 4k TV'S will be much cheaper too.  Maybe you just jumped on 4k a year too early.  Like I could get a top class 4k TV for $1500 now but I'll wait a year for that quality of model to be under $1000.

It sounds clichéd but it sucks to be an early adopter.  You always get the short end of the stick!

They'll be "cheap" as in $200 probably, the XBox one S will be cheaper in a year too .... probably like $250 ... for $50 more might as well just get the XBox.

MS basically is going to get anyone who wants to play actual 4K movie content by default including even Playstation buyers. I just think it's a stupid way to run the Playstation business.

And for what? So Sony could save like $10. Whoopity doo.

Guess I get to check ou that XBox ecosystem now though. The new XBox controller is pretty awesome too, best console controller on the market, tried it out yesterday at GameStop. Like butter. And there are a few XBox games that I've wanted to try which I will be able to, so I guess that's a nice silver lining, but still this whole situation has left a bad taste in my mouth.

I'm buying a console I basically shouldn't have to get.

There needs to be a song made out of this whole controversy to the soundtrack from "guns don't kill people,  rappers do".

Movies don't sell consoles,

Games do!

Badadadada, boobooboo xD

Wait you're buying an Xbox slim instead of a scorpio?  But the slim plays games at just the standard level.  Not talking much advantage of your big expensive 4k set at all.  This makes no sense.  Are you in this for the 4k games or 4k movies?

Well I'm going to have to have a 4K player no matter what, if I'm paying $2000+ for that new shiny 4KTV I damn well want some kick ass real 4K content to show people when they come over to the house on top of the fact that I kinda (gasp!) like movies. So I'm basically forced into the XBox One S. No one else is offering anything better for a lower price. Sony's not giving me any kind of better option.

I think I'm just going to make a clean break for the Playstation ecosystem entirely. Keep the XBox One S for a year and then trade it for $120 or whatever in a year's time for a Scorpio and my XBox games/controllers will all be forwards compatible with that and I'll get in the long term a better 4K console gaming experience with the Scorpio too.

I don't think there's going to be a ton of games that really take advantage of the PS4 Pro over the next year anyway and it isn't really the perfect 4K console anyway, specs are a little on the low side, though the the upscaling or whatever technology sounds decent enough.

It's a shame I won't get to finish my copy of Uncharted 4, but that's the breaks I guess. I am upset that it's basically all because Sony can save $10-$15 a system that I'm being forced into going this route.
