Forums - Sales - Some ps2 heavy hitters might be selling better on the PS3

In what way am I ridiculous? I am comparing a combination of a spin-off and main game to a spin-off and main game. Apples to apples is the comparison most people strive for. And yes, as I mentioned earlier of course they will eat into each others sales. They are two competing products. That is why they will not launch at the same time. Square-Enix is well aware of the fact that two of their heavy hitting titles launching too close together will only hurt their bottom line. This is shown by the fact that they were/are considering delaying FFXIII because the launch was/is too close to Dragon Quest IX. If they do release it then there expectations for one of the titles is significantly lower than the other.

when did you say they will launch at different times? I also clearly stated earlier that the way I precieved these 2 games will be launched together. If they launch at different times then no they should not be counted together. That gives people enough time to play their first purchase through only to decide if they want the next,

I am sorry if this comes off too mean but I can't think of a nice way to say what must be said. Have you ever heard of reading comprehension? The two parts to bolded are in seperate sentences. The second sentence works off of what I said earlier. It is called elaborating on a point. I did it because you did not seem to catch my full meaning the first time and that is why I felt I had to go into greater detail on my thoughts. It is extremely obvious what I meant in those sentences and cannot imagine why you are trying to raise that as a point anyways.

The games cannot be counted together regardless of their launch windows though. They are two seperate and extremely different games that happen to share a brand name. There is no good reason for them to be counted together. If Square-Enix is releasing them at the same time they are either doing something extremely stupid, or expect that one game was going to completely outshine the other regardless and didn't put much effort into it. Given the details of the projects released so far I have to assume it is not the latter, and I doubt the former would as well.

I was just looking at the game database and comparing games, I compared call of duty 2 for the ps2 and cod4 for the ps3 and the ps3 already outsold the game 2 to 1. Not only that but this was even more suprising:

http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Ratchet+%26+Clank%3A+Up+Your+Arsenal+-+PS2&reg2=All&game2=Ratchet+%26+Clank+Future%3A+Tools+of+Destruction+-+PS3&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100

Ratchet ps3 is selling better than the ps2 ratchet, and even more suprising:

http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Jak+III+-+PS2&reg2=All&game2=Uncharted%3A+Drakes+Fortune+-+PS3&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100

Uncharted is about to outsell jak 3 on the ps2, does this mean that exclsuives on the PS3 will sell much better than there ps2 counter parts? Only time will tell.

A. CoD 4 is the best in the series, and more realistically, the most popular by far, due to word of mouth.  It's not a fair comparison.

B. When a system has no good games, the ones available will sell more. That implies that since the PS2 has a zillion great games, the average great game didn't sell as well as it could on a system with a shitty library.

In other words, on the PS3, Rachet is a big fish in a little pond, owning all.

On the PS2, Rachet is an average sized fish in the ocean, commanding no respect, and getting laughed at by sharks.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

^ your third sentance plays off your second making it seem that you implied the different release window in a previous post.

well i think in general as years pass ps3 games will see more sales even with a smaller install base due to one and only big reason:piracy.ps3 has yet to be hacked and even if it will the cost of a pirated game will be too high to sacrifice online gaming(as it is also free). On the other hand,ps2 was a true victim of piracy as u could find a game at a local store for sth like 8-10 bucks when the genuine game costed 50 bucks. And of course as everyone noted the need for AAA games from ps3 users will ever increase sales

actually ratchet was a pretty amazing game for the ps2,and judging for scores on sites like metacritic it was on the elite games of the other zillion games.so ratchet was a "whale on the ocean" and actually the best of genre since i cant find other platform games that had so good gameplay on the ps2
