Which is better?

Turn Based 49 48.51%

Free flow 22 21.78%

Both 30 29.70%

Total:101

Doesn't matter to me as long as it's fun.

See results.

'see results' is just a cop out. You'll just have to make a choice

Maybe my english  was wrong ?

For someone like me who doesn't like turn based games like the old ones probably. I might get it.

For over all sales we'll have to wait and see. They'll lose hardcore fans but will they gain enough new fans?

One things for sure though. They can remake old titles like FF7 and keep the old style to keep everybody happy.

Quality wise, definitely. The old style Final Fantasies had fantastic gameplay to go along with their great stories and interesting characters. Not only does FFXV's gameplay look boring it's also seriously lacking in characters. At least the story seems interesting though. FF7R also looks to have boring gameplay and the story... well we already know that so... meh.

Sales wise... hard to say. FFXV would probably be by far the highest selling JRPG (other than Pokemon) this decade, regardless of whether it used a turn based or action battle system. The brand name is just that strong. And of course we wouldn't know what the difference would actually be unless they released both styles of game which they seem loathe to do.

Edit: Oh and surely I'm not the only one who thought this was another Rise of the Tomb Raider thread right?

100% agree with what is written here. I cannot comment on the story FF7R since I have yet to see story.

Good choice. Turn based is prehistoric, perhaps very fitting for 2d games, buts thats about it. Action battle system is far superior and lets the game have a better pace/flow. When it comes to it, my only problem is how much can you control other characters besides the main one. I really loved FFXII for its gambit system. I really hated FFXIII for its lack of it. So far im liking FFXV a lot. The battle system is good. The story seems great. The lack of variety in characters is my only big issue.

Surely they wouldn't change the story as well? The battle system is bad enough as is, but if they change the story as well then it wouldn't even be a remake anymore. Just a new game featuring Cloud and co. Could maybe call it Cloud Returns: Final Fantasy

This is Square, they will add in everything from the expanded Final Fantasy VII in, and change things up. Even if it is subtle, I do not imagine this being faithful as some think it will be.

Free Flow for me. I like to have full control of my character. I just like how Secret of Mana works.

When it comes to Final Fantasy some people I hav etalked to say that they like the turn based combat style of the old days, and others prefer the new free flow combat style of today. I was just wondering what all of you peeps think of this, and if so, why exactly do you believe this?

In all objectivity, we don't know right now because FFXV hasn't released yet.

That being said, turn based gameplay is one of the cleanest and least error prone game design implementations you can have.   It just works.  SE likes to try and bite off more than they can chew all too often.

BUT, that's both a criticism and a compliment.  So many other game developers are cowards when it comes to changing up their game designs.  Most of them AAA developers.

I 100% agree with this, and I agree that we should wait to make final decisions until we can see what XV turns out to be.

See when I think of it I think that the new ay of battle (free flow) it creates more opportunity for fighting styles, and combos. I also think that the old way (turn based) is a really good method, and it was really fun and interesting at all times. I do think that it can still be worked out at current times to a way that it would work it would be amazing. I also want to wait for my final decision on XV for when I play the game after release, but I can respect from where you are coming from.

Just to clarify what do you mean for Tomb Raider? I do not really follow SE as much as I should, but I would like to be enlightened. :)

See you are thinking is interesting to me. Why do you believe that turn based is only for 2d games? I personally believe that it can work in modern days, yet it would have to be done in the same way. I do agree with your points on free flow however. But yeah, could you please explain your thinking for turn based a bit more please?
