Forums - Microsoft - Buying an XBOX One S Thanks to Sony Event

I don't care about slight increase in performance in games, I have my PC for that. The only need I had for a new PS4 is 4k blu-ray, I feel ya OP, I really wanted it as well.
I find this somewhat odd since Sony have such a major stake in the blu-ray format and have a vested interest in the movie industry as well.
Are they quite simply losing faith in physical distribution of movies? I believe they are.

Why do you need a PS4 for a 4k blu-ray if that's the only need you had for it? You can just get a 4k blu-ray player - cheaper too.

I think the real point being made is:

1. You sold your PS4. This means that you have no access to PS4 games, of which there are exclusives. And now you intend on keeping it that way because...

2. PS4 Pro doesn't have a UHD Drive. You're giving up games for roughly 100 movies over the next year (many of which aren't native 4K, but remastered). But the real kicker is...

3. You're replacing a console you currently own with a console that has the same exact library, that being one that is also available in near entirety on PC.

Now see, if you are really about the movie quality and not just here to do whatever this is, then you would get a UHD player later, when they drop to a better price (and they will at an alarming rate). After all, this theoretical plan you have about getting a Pro would have had to wait until November 10th anyway.

So why would you get a standalone? Well, for better sound, and to watch in Atmos (which no console supports). Even that aside it'll end up being cheaper, too, and you won't have to migrate data.

1. He clearly values the function of a 4k player over a couple exclusives.

2. same answer as 1, but as you said 100+ movies versus a few games

3. He may not have a PC, maybe he likes playing on console, likes sitting on couch and tv and pc isn't hooked up htere, ect.

4. Atmos. If he had Atmos sound, I doubt he would be even talking about money. The cheapest Atmos is like 1500 and thats bare bones version. THat is a lot to pay for sound.

1. Then he should get a UHD Player on Black Friday.

2. A movie is 2-3 hours, a game is 6-40. Your math leaves a lot to be desired.

3. Fair point.

4. Atmos can be added to any sound system with a supporting receiver for about $100 using acoustic vertical firing speakers or in-ceiling speakers. There are also soundbars that support it.

So basically I sold my PS4 a month ago in anticipation of Neo. I'm getting a 4ktv this fall, but now that the Pro doesn't even play 4k Blurays I'm basically screwed by Sony. I'm not paying another extra 200-400 bucks for 4k BR player AND a PS4 Neo. I might as well get an XBox One S now because it's one of the cheaper 4k BR players and just game on that since I doubt the 4k games on the Pro will run that great. And no Netflix is not good enough, the whole point of getting a 4ktv is for the best image, a stream is not going to match a 4k Blu Ray. So basically I'm being forced into an Xbox. Now I'm wondering if I should just ditch the PS ecosystem entirely and just wait for Scorpio next year which is going to be more powerful. Sorry Sony but you just lost a customer.

Yes enjoy those Super expensive Ultra HD blu-rays for your brand new 4k TV.

And enjoy your 720-900p Xbox One Slim, for gameing on that same 4k TV.

I mean... why would you want to buy a PS4 Pro to play games at 4k, when you have a 4k TV right?

Yes the solution is to go over a year without gameing, and getting a 599$ scorpio sometime late 2017, early 2018.

If I want watch 4k blurays on my new 4ktv and have the ps4 neo I'm looking at like 800 to 1000 bucks. Or I can play Xbox One for a year for 300 bucks and then buy a Scorpio in a year with even better specs and better 4k gaming performance. Hell I'm pretty sure I could get 100 dollars at least for my Xbox One towards a Scorpio. I don't see Scorpio being 500 dollars either. it basically just sounds like an overstocked Polaris 11 which is already cheap.

So, as a 'gamer' you're opting for 4K Blu-ray movies over better looking games? Weird.

I guess "better looking" is the only criteria in buying a product.

Well, I want an actual PS4 as well (already have one), it would be miles better to have the function on a machine I'm getting anyway. As it stands right now, the pro will be more or less useless to me, and I still find it weird that Sony are showing such a lack of initiative in pushing and supporting their own format and movies.

There are many features in today's consoles that make them appealing to more than just gaming. This is a kick in the nuts to people that rely on their consoles for their all in one experiences. I know I can not go back to a console that doesn't have an HDMI in to play TV shows for me. 🙄 The next Xbox better have it or there'll be hell to pay.

Anyone remember E3 2013 ?
MS choose to focus on TV & movies: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbWgUO-Rqcw

Sony choose to focus on gameing.

Its why they ve sold so many PS4's.

They did the same again with the PS4 Pro.  Focus is on gameing & price over TV & movies.

If they added the Ultra HD blu-ray player and had to price it 449$ would it have been better than its current 399$ price tag?

What sells them more units guys?

If the rationale here is the keep the price of the console down then I'm all for it. People who want to buy a console for game considerations should be first, second, and third on the list of priorities. Movie buffs come in eleventh.

The Samsung UBD-K8500 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player is $318. You're welcome.
