The fps demographic were never on Nintendo consoles save for Goldeneye era. Most fps shooters are on PC, PlayStation or Xbox. FPS shooter games are mainly for its multiplayer feature where the Metroid series seriously lacks and focuses on lores and exploration - a single player campaign.
Nintendo hopes to change that with Metroid Federation but they seem to be failing.
