It can work but it requires a different way the game works.

As it works now it generates the world on the fly in memory and only remembers what resources you take away, likely with simple binary flags or other way to store differences. For example if you leave a spot where you carved up a resource like heridium it appears as a whole block again until you get close enough for the local differences to be aplied.

Minecraft works fundamentally different in that it stores the procedurally generated world as a whole. You can see this easily as your save game grows fast when you explore a lot. My save on the ps4 didn't grow while building and changing tons of stuff locally, after flying to the four corners my save game now has 6 world data blocks.

The version of NMS as it is now is not set up for permanent changes like adding settlements, altering terrain, introducing more wildlife etc. Ofcourse it can be made, version 2 more likely than a simple add on. It would require a world storage system locally and server wise, a lot of work.

All it needs is to save one planet. Everyone can have one planet that they can modify as they see fit, bring other life and materials and splice species. You have the choice of changing planets if you ever find a better one. Visit friends planets and so on. I know that on minecraft a world is only like 20mb, I expect on the graphycal detail NMS has it can easyly be like 10gb just the save game world. That should not be an issue.

I have a vanilla world, singleplayer (as in, only one player's worth of exploring and building) that is over a gigabyte in size. Large serverworlds grow far beyond that.

There are many things I would like added

- manual landing, flying under arches, through canyons, into large caves.
- upgrade for directional control of the jetpack
- upgrade to swim faster
- upgrade to call ship from anywhere
- exploration vehicles, buggies, boats
- mapping upgrade to explore caves
- scanner upgrades for the ship, scan planets from orbit, scan next star system for elements, signs of life
- system map
- zoom out on galaxy map, show your path so far
- planets actually moving / rotating with a real day/night cycle
- planets and moons casting shadows, eclipses
- binary star systems and beyond
- gravity, atmosphere density having an effect on flora and fauna
- different biomes on planets, tall mountains, valleys, forests, rivers, polar regions, tidally locked planets.
- better correlation between what planets look like from space and on the ground.

Nope... not even close. lol. Minecraft, this game is not.

I wish you were wrong but I don't think you are.  This game has been killed, kicked on ground, spit on, run over, drawn and quartered, thumped with rubber bands and tbagged for good measure.

It's a shame because I like the game and it has enormous potential for updates.  I wish it had been multiplatform and there never was a flood causing need for console exclusivity.

This is what really annoys me about your posts on this subject. You try to make it look like everyones problem with the game is to do with it not being on XB1.

Lets get one thing stright here once again. That is not the reason for why people are hating on No Mans Sky.

1. Developers lied to fans right up to release.

2. Game launched in a shitty state on 2 systems.

3. Game is over priced and lacks content.

Them 3 reasons are much bigger reasons for why people are mad then the one your trying to make it look like.

I read the back and forth between you and lrdfancypants and I would just like to say you're a real credit to these forums. What a lovely guy you are. I love the way you think getting aggressive makes you right and how you get all emotional about a subject but then claim that the other guy is getting worked up and emotional. It's awesome that you can start getting personal too, you're the best.

We can all learn something off this guy!

Yep, I thought I remained rather polite considering the insults.

He is confusing something I've said previously on another thread about hate with what I said on this thread regarding wanting a larger player base so a game I like doesn't die off.  They're two separate thoughts I've had on the game.  He also conveniently leaves off the fact that I likened it to ROTTR hate in an attempt to make it look like I'm singling out one group instead of the phenomenon as a whole.

On a separate thread he actually quoted me saying something angrily that was said by someone else in the thread.  So he was mad at me for something someone else said.

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

I am on the other side of my sig....am I warm or cold?

With all the negative publicity surrounding it, Idk if it's gonna be a viable series like Minecraft is. Also, it is not simple enough.

And didn't the head of Hello Games say there would be no DLC?

Sooooo..... it's pretty heated in here, it seems. My advice - everyone try to regain some composure and avoid the insults.

Frequent offenders are frequent offending!
