Forums - Gaming - iN-FocuS: Your Favorite Horror Franchises And Games

My big complain with horror nowadays is that I can't seem to be scared at all. I try to immerse myself as much as I can into it, but ultimately I don't feel all that "terror", so I have to enjoy the game through its other elements, like atmospehre, story and gameplay.

This being said, I love horror games, mostly because of those elements I've mentioned. I do enjoy Silent Hill a lot (never played the first one unfortunately), and I've liked basically almost every single entry, including Homecoming and Downpour. I'd say my favourite is SH2, with Shattered Memories being the one that impressed me the most from a narrative standpoint. Then there's Resident Evil, The Evil Within, Dead Space, Condemned, SOMA, Amnesia, Deadly Premonition, Siren, Eternal Darkness and such. All fantastic games/franchises.

From these last years, my highlights have been Deadly Premonition, Siren Blood Curse and The Evil Within. Those three games managed to make me love them despite their shortcomings.

My fave character from Until Dawn. It doesn't help the fact that I played the game with some friends and, because of the order of the characters being introduced, I was the one that took control of Chris. He's such a clown but at the same time a really nice guy, too bad he gets a bit ignored toward the ends, though.

I wouldn't call Alan Wake "horror", but rather a psychological thriller (just like Remedy classifies it as well). The game is much better if you approach it that way.

I'm not the biggest horror fan out there, but the games I've enjoyed the most are Resident Evil 4, Eternal Darkness, Dead Space 1 and Resident Evil 2. I've never tried any Silent Hill game, but I don't know why...

Physchological Titles are still "Horror" titles. They're just not Survival Horror or Action Horror.

Not sure I agree. Games like I have no Mouth and I must Scream, Antichamber or Spec Ops: The Line are psychological, but far from being horror.

Silent Hill 3, the original Resident Evil, and RE Nemesis, every Fatal Frame though the 3rd being the weakest one and never played the 4th, but some people are calling that the best.

And this might cause some contraversy, but the original Nazi Zombies in COD was really cool as well.

Same here however to fix that issue I bought an Oculus Rift and it works. It actually makes my heart rate go up to the point I have to stop the games from time to time.

Eternal Darkness. Too bad it was a one shot one of the best adaptation of Lovecraft work, it's my favourite horror game.

And the screaming floor ! This floor was made of screaming faces !

Nice work, CGI. I need to check out a few of these. I don't play enough of the genre, though I have a weird obsession with freaking myself out.

I think I might get Slender or Amnesia tonight. *nods*

I was going to put either Silent Hill or Rule of Rose here too, but considering I needed a guide to understand half of the undertones of Rule of Rose, and that I despise Silent Hill's gameplay, this one gets the lead.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I love Dead Space 1 is simply brilliant, best horror game of the last gen to me and still looks gorgeous.

Metro 2033 and Last Light were superb experiences too and they still look very impressive, the atmosphere is something else.

From this gen I was pretty surprised with Soma, that game gets under your skin, is almost toxic, but is fantastic.

And then there's Her Story ... but that's a special case.

If I go back in time RE2 and Silent Hill are the horror games that impressed me the most.
