Forums - Gaming - MS change deceptive Xbox One Slim image

This being a mistake is actually pretty likely. Remember that this was not originally an image but part of a video thus the people looking over it is more likely to miss it.

And I can totally see the 3D artist getting the memo saying, "make it be 40% smaller" then taking 40 percent off each side and calling it a day, not knowing that it is 40% in volume rather than each side which would actually make it 78.4% smaller in volume. Plus, most 3d modeling programs I've seen scale by dimension rather than volume. The factor to scale by is actually 15.7% off each side I think, but that takes thinking to get and you know how much people don't like thinking.

Not sure I would say deceptive. It was an animation that shrank between the sizes. I put my S against my fat and it is a lot smaller. I think they took in to account the size of the external PS and added it to that total size count for the animation.

Time to bring out the measuring tape :) ( JK :P )

the first picture suppose to Xbox One Mini...

Just wait for the scorp, it'll be 2X the size of the og Xbone.

The second image looks a lot more like 40% smaller than the first :/

Not sure where the images came from though

If the Xbone S was representing an Asian guy, you could tell which one has a better car to compensate for the shortcomings. 🙄

Honest mistake that they corrected thankfully, but I actually think the second image is a bit to big :).

Do you think their E3 show was seen by literally no one before it was okayed to go on the giant screens?

Anyone with eyes could see the original image wasn't even big enough to fit Gamecube size disks into, unless you are saying that you think their whole marketing division can't do basic geometrical maths? Would be a fairly weak group if that was the case.

Yea, I think they knew what was up.  If they didn't then this would have been corrected right away when people criticized it after E3, NOT months later, when the XBOS is releasing.

In neither case it looks 40% smaller. The first one is way too small, and the second one is way too big, but maybe it's my sight playing tricks on me.

It'll be your eyes. 40% smaller in total volume doesn't mean you have to shorten each dimension by 40%.

If you have an object with dimensions 40x50x10 units you have a volume of 20,000 cubic units. A 40% reduction in volume is 12,000 cubic units, the dimensions of a 12,000 cubic unit object could be 30x40x10, which represents a 25%, 20% and 0% reduction in the respective dimensions.
