It's detective pikachu, not the mainline games.

Source? It would be tremendously silly to base the western-made Pokemon movie off of a non Pokemon-like spinoff that is exclusive to Japan.

Too lazy to get a source, but this is definately the case, has been officially mentionned at some place.

Bet with PeH:

I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.

Bet with WagnerPaiva:

I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

That's terrifying.

I dunno. A real life pokemon movie sounds like it could be all levels of gross and creepy. I don't think it translates well to real life.

obviously the Pokemon would be CGI. I think it could work if they go with an extremelyyyy stylized and kind of fantastical attitude. You can't just take the real world and implant Pokemon as a sport and make it work (cough look at how shit the live action Dragonball was).

Everything needs to be dramatically different from our real world for this film to work, cities, styles, even the average mannerisms. You watch Pokemon the cartoon for 5 minutes and obviously you'll notice people act a bit more bizarre and tend to yell catchphrases and things. the goofiness needs to remain

I think the worst thing they could do is take Pokemon TOO seriously. It has to be fun and zany

I actually talked with friend of mind about how you could do a Pokémon movie and make sense of all the tournaments and badges and why trainers battle for a more engaging plot than "for sport." I honestly think this could work. It could also be really crap.

Still not sold on the idea but I'll wait for some footage.

The thing is, what will the movie be like? Silly like the first 3 generations, or have a more serious tone from gens 5 and 6?

Either way, they would be sticking to the true core of pokemon. Pokemon BW actually had a decent plot with character development- it can easily be made into a movie. However, I'm sure the plot will be unique.

Regardless, I'd really like to see Team Rocket, Magma/Aqua or team plasma as the main villains.

.....You guys are aware that this movie is base on Detective Pikachu....right?

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

This could work then, 90% of whether a movie is good or not is the script, and it looks like they have gotten a very good scriptwriting team. The girl who wrote Guardians of the Galaxy and the Gravity Falls guy ... can't say there isn't serious talent being put behind this.

Wtf!? Like seriously what are they even thinking, where's the logic behind this!? Well whatever, I don't care about this movie anymore.

Is "Great Detective Pikachu" supposed to be the same Pikachu from the TV shows or is that Pikachu a different Pikachu altogether? lol.

Legendary doesn't seem to be cutting on anything for this title, could actually be the first major videogame movie. It most definately will set a new metacritic record, by any means.

Well except Warcraft, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Prince of Persia, Mortal Kombat, Hitman, Max Payne? And for the Metacritic part, well I wouldent hold my breath. The bar is set low, but its Pokemon after all, no matter who is writing it.

What would you want. This actually sounds interesting, I prefer this compare trying to turn the games into a movie and fail horribly

It's a different Pikachu who is old, grumpy, and tired of the world. Which is why Danny Devito needs to play him.
