Forums - Gaming - I avoid buying games on release, here are my reasons

Hi! Since PS2 era I avoid buying games at release, and here are my reasons and I want to share them with you to see if I can find people that agree or diasgree with me.

1) Wait to get discounts. Yes, the main reason. If I wait I can get the games far cheaper than in release day, and I`m not talking about used copies, but brand new copies. Not necessarily I wait for a Greatest Hit Re-Issue, but one month or two makes wonders to games prices, mainly here in Brazil.

2) If it`s a game I know is going to be full of DLC I prefer to wait a release where all the content is included in a single purchase. I didn`t get GT5 right away for example, even it being one of the games that made me choose a PS3 at the time, but I waited the Edition that contained all the content on a single purchase, and it was worth it. I did the same with Street Fighter IV and RE 5. This gen I haven`t bought a PS4 yet, but when I do i`m going to have the benefit to be able to buy those "fuller" versions of the earlier games in the gen.

3) Quality Control. It kinda goes back to number one, but after some time I can see the feedback the early buyers give to said game( more reliable than professional reviews), and even if the game isn`t as good as I thought, at least I didn`t paid the full price for it. And after FF XIII being so disappointing for me I don`t even trust franchises names to make buy a game, i`m really hyped for FF XV, but I won`t be dropping coins on it until I know it`s good, and if it`s bad I`ll only buy it when it`s heavily discounted.

I rarely buy games on day one. Probably due to the fact that I can handle waiting a week or longer.

Only games I get day one is Pokemon.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Well the reason I buy games on release or pre-order them is due to pre-order bonuses since some of them are quite neat. And depending on the game (such as cod), the longer I wait to play it, the less value I will get out of it but granted the game will also get discounted with time.

What I mean by that is that for the most part, online games are at their strongest during the first few months until the next big online thing comes along. So when the game launches, you will have roughly the same skill as the rest since everyone is learning the game together for the most part. But if you join the multiplayer scene much later, you will have:

a) Less players to play with which means longer wait time, specially with games like Cod with its yearly release
b) Players that are much more skilled than you since they figured out the game quite a while ago which means losing more frequently until you get the jist of it
c) Being forced to buy the DLC if there is any cause that is where almost everyone will be playing in

So yea, thats why I buy online games that I might want to play on release. I also like buying SP games due how much the internet likes to spoil stuff.

As for Broken games or quality control... This is one of the biggest reasons why I am a PC gamer... If the game is shit, we get a refund. PC gamers for the most part really don't have to worry about quality control much anymore and they can pre-order games without having to worry. Cause if there is any issues, oh look, refund! Legit, on of the biggest reasons I will never buy third party multiplats on consoles ever.

Broken Game? Refund! Subpar FPS? Refund! Game doesn't look like what the trailer looked like? Refund! Less boobs than promised? Mods! (Or refund)

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

So basically you want to pay less.....

Well thats a good reason.

there are a few conditions on which i buy a game day one. i bought Splatoon on day one because i got really hooked from the demo. and then Pokemon games i always buy day 1 because really, its pokemon, what the hell could be wrong with it?

In all areas (excluding multiplayer) the patient are rewarded where buying video games are concerned. Especially nowadays, when games come out and have bugs out the ass and are only 100% fixed months later, or minor side missions are sold as heavily overpriced DLC.

Preorders and day-one purchases should, imo, be treated like Kickstarter backing. You are purchasing without proof of quality of the product (or limited proof if reviews are on time), so it should be based on earned trust. You gain little to nothing from this practice so it should be a reward for publishers who have earned it. Have the publisher's previous games delivered? Are their games up to your technical standards at launch? Those are the questions you should ask. If people would just do that, we would probably see a lot of things change in this industry. Shoot, Ubisoft and WB might start behaving themselves for a change.

I barely ever buy games Day 1. If I do it's because it's a game that I'm very excited for.

I've never bought a game on release day, and probably never will. I can play my backlog while the price drops, why pay $65 for a game that I won't play for months to come?

I buy most of my games day 1. Unless its something I have no interest in (in which I probably won't play it till the end of the gen or something).

That way, if you don't like it, sell it for the next game that comes out. You hardly have a backlog plus you don't really lose much money on the selling price.
