Forums - Gaming - No Man's Sky is a disaster on PC. Currently 31% positive on Steam.

No Man's Sky launched on PC today and unless your PC was actally hand built by the gods, you probably encountered a staggering frame rate, the game crashing upon opening, etc. And people on Steam are not happy about it at all. As you probably saw in the title the game is currently sitting at a 31% positive rating in the steam reviews, and even the positive reviews are put in there to be jokes. From the looks of things it doesnt even have to do with hardware either as players have mentioned using the latest intel processors and GTX 980's to run the game and even they can't get much above 20 fps, that is if the game even opens at all. Players have already decided to refund the game only a few hours after global release complaining that a game with multiple delays should not run this poorly upon release, and I agree with them.

This is only a single event that occured in No Man's Sky's nightmare of a release. Players already felt discouraged on the PS4's day 1 release when players discovered that multiplayer was cut from the game with no sign of it coming anytime soon. Metacritic has also been harsh on the game currently boasting a 69 rating from critics and a score of 4.9 from user ratings.

As an additional note (i really just felt like pointing it out) the game StarBound which features a similar concept to No Man's Sky but with a 2D perspective has just entered its official release and currently has scores of 84 and 6.7 on metacritic, which is considerably higher.

What about you guys, have you encountered any problems with the game, is it working for you, or did you already get a refund?

*UPDATE*

Since this post being made earlier today the review scores have been gradually improving. As I am typing this the Steam reviews scores have gone up to a 49% positive rate. Keep in mind that is still mostly negative. Although it should be mentioned the problems have not gone away and people are still complaining that he game is (quite literally) unplayable. Some have also pointed out solutions to making the game run if your problem is that the game crashes immediately on start-up but there is so far no relief for the FPS drops. Some of these solutions involve manually going into the game settings through system files and setting to windowed mode, while some reported using an external harddrive seems to fix the problem. Regardless, I would recommend everybody get a refund and buy the game at a later date if you are unable to play the game.

When you look at the reviews and what they're saying, it looks like it was overhyped period.

It's also at 2.5 stars out of 5 on GOG. I bet it'll get fixed, but looks like it could take a while. I'm perplexed as to why they thought they could release it in this shape on PC. There would have been much less of an outrage if they simple delayed it instead of releasing it in this shape. Maybe they needed the extra money due to the game's lengthy development?

And most people were expecting that, to be honest. There was just no way it was going to live up to its hype.

The launch of this game has been even a bigger disaster than I expected. I'm afraid that the huge love and devotion Sean Murray had in the internet is gonna be reversed now, internet has no measure.

This game is derping on both platforms... On ps4, it has terrible FoV, Prone to crashes, Fps Drops and etc. While on PC, it is crashing on CPUs that don't have support for SSE4.1, GPUs that don't have OpenGL 4.5 as well as hitches on PCs that do and etc... They goofed... They goofed hard

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I tried running this thing on my Commodore 64 and it exploded.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I fear, while for unrelated reasons, Final Fantasy XV will shate the same fate.

If he released a quality, functioning game they would.
