Wait a sec! You mean a person on the internet was attacked by other internet people?

Say whaaaaaaaaaa?

Really? I mean, is this really worth reporting?

Jim is one of the most popular independent critics of videogames and NMS is the hottest game of the moment, fans of the game put his site down so nobody can read the review he did. Yes, I see this as an interesting topic about gaming comunity behaviour on internet today.

The game is very distinct much like games like Monster Hunter and so on, it's not really for everyone and would be divisive as it's going for a particular experience, the downside is that the game becomes tricky to even get into for those who it doesn't appeal to.

It won't get rave reviews all around as like with the Monster Hunter games people end up expecting something it's not but I hear they have some interesting ideas planned in future updates to the game and that the DLC will be free.

This seemed like the kind of game that would have insufferable fanboys.

Well, I would say that his response sinks him down to the level of the people doing this.

no it really doesnt.  not even close.

the morons who are so connected to and invested emotionally in a device or so in love with a game and/or a company that they are doing this to his site are beyond stupid and childish.

Still not as bad as sports fans.

How did they put it down exactly?

That would be a fair point if the entire internet wasn't like this. Name one thing that doesn't get attacked. One thing.

It has nothing to do with the gaming community and everything to do with a lot of people being pricks who can say whatever they want with no consequences.

The anonymity of the Internet certainly is an aggravating factor. But I do think parochialism and brand loyalty is a bigger problem in the community of video game fans than, say, movie or music fans.

For movies, the recent petition to take down RottenTomatoes because of the bad Suicide Squad score seems to fall in the same category as this attack on Jim's site (i.e. incredibly stupid things insecure people do when someone "attacks" the thing they love ).

I only hope this somehow, through some magical mumbo jumbo takes down metacritic. We should be able to just read the review sites we trust without some idiotic aggregation being the score at the forefront.

Edit: That's it! Just get rid of the average score, viola!

I don't think you've spent enough time at pop forums. They can be just as toxic with person defending actors and pop stars more than they would their own child by attacking other users or movies/pop stars. Death threats, wishing someone will get cancer, wisher their children will get cancer, etc.

Internet will be internet.

Distributed Denial of Service attack. Basically, you use a program to make millions of queries to the website which paralyses it.

For those saying 5/10 sounds low, I agreed initially. Having just read his review, though, it's very well reasoned and 5/10 sounds fair for the experience he had.

I'll wait for more reviews, but it really sounds like this is the Spore 2.0 I feared it would be.
