The game is very distinct much like games like Monster Hunter and so on, it's not really for everyone and would be divisive as it's going for a particular experience, the downside is that the game becomes tricky to even get into for those who it doesn't appeal to.
It won't get rave reviews all around as like with the Monster Hunter games people end up expecting something it's not but I hear they have some interesting ideas planned in future updates to the game and that the DLC will be free.
