With leak after leak coming out recently about the highly anticipated Nintendo NX. It seems clearer now than ever, that the console is expected to be a somewhat of a handheld/console hybrid. More information leaked out recently which claims that nintendo aims not just at the hardcore gaming community, but at their old wii audience which has (supposedly) mostly moved onto smartphone and tablet gaming. Nintendo wants to upgrade the smartphone user to a better gaming experience with the NX, and are expected to launch their biggest and baddest IPS within a launch window. Pokemon, Mario, and Zelda are all coming within year 1, and the system is promising HD GAMING GRAPHICS on the go. All this sounds oddly TOO familiar to what sony promised with their NGP back in 2011. Sony was launching and handheld which tried to mirror HD console gaming on the go for an affordable price. The now PS VITA can remotely stream PS3 AND PS4 games basicaly anywhere that there is a wifi connection. The system also brought big ips at launch such as UNCHARTED, AND MODNATION RACERS. And promised to deliver hardcore gaming experiences with franchises like ASSASINS CREED, AND CALL OF DUTY. All which laucnhed on the console and proved to not be enough to bring attention towards the failed experiment.

With the NX, nintendo aren't directly competing with the PS4 or XBOX ONE, but this leaked concept brings in other foes, SAMSUNG AND APPLE who have consistently been stepping their game up with more gaming centric experiences and HUBS for their smartphone users.  GAME CENTER FROM APPLE, and the new gaming hub OS from Samsung are all examples of this.

Nintendo is going to fail. I don't want to seem pessimistic, but it's inevatable. WITH THE GALAXY NOTE 7 AND IPHONE 7 LAUNCHING IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS. WE NOW HAVE PHONES THAT ARE EXPECTED TO RIVAL XBOX 360 LEVEL GRAPHICS ON THE GO. With game franchises like POKEMON, KINGDOM HEARTS, GTA, FINAL FANTASY, RAYMAN, AND OTHERS already launching officially on these devices, it seems THE SMARTPHONE MOBILE SPACE HAS MORE THIRD PARTY SUPPORT THAN NINTENDO DOES WITH IT'S 3DS AND WII U CURRENTLY.

Nintendo wants to move smartphone users to a system which is rumored to be only slightly more powerful than the WII U. Look, by 2017, you can expect smartphones to rival WII U power in graphics... easily.  This isn't even a joke, it's going to happen, how wil nintendo respond?

THE POWER OF THE CLOUD COMING TO A SMARTPHONE NEAR YOU:

SONY CAN LITERALLY hit nintendo hard by launching PS NOW ON SMARTPHONES. Which is expeted to happen soon. PS3 HD GAMING ON THE GO, ANYWHERE YOU HAVE LTE SIGNAL. Why would the casual consumer who has ps3 GAMES EVERYWHERE want an NX?

How can nintendo succeed with this system? They cannot compete with apple or samsung... and def cannot compete with sony if they launch ps now on mobile.....

No, it won't fail.

Smartphone games are still so different than console games. It's an ocean of difference in sophistication, and the context and usage for the devices is very different. Therefore the demographics are also different. Therefore I believe there are many core gamers out there who love Nintendo but hate phone games.

I've never seen or heard about a smartphone gamer playing on anything even remotely close to X360 graphics. Even on tablets that market just doesn't exist.

Like I mentioned, the smartphone now offers GTA, KINGDOM HEARTS, FINAL FANTASY, and others which are on par or better than their console counterparts..... With Sony launching PS now on mobile soon, why would people play the nx vs streaming ps3 games and more everywhere for cheap? In fact, you have a point, but I don't see Nintendo selling more than 30 million to it's dedicated 3ds/Wii u base

Who the fuck actually uses Game center?

I stopped once you mentioned that as an actual threat from Apple.

Not just that, but saying phones have better games than 3DS/Wii U? Don't you realize those 'games' are nothing more than shallow cash grabs? For every good game there are one million more garbage games. You can't say the same for Wii U/3DS.

No one wants to play games on the go on their smartphone. Put a PS3 game on the newest iphone and it'll heat up and reach 15-20 fps maximum...not just that, but who the hell would play most console/handheld games on a phone? I get something like Rhythm Heaven or Ace Attorney, but using the screen is MUCH more irritating than a physical controller.

Add in size. Most people don't want to use 1-5+ GB just for a game. Pricing is also a huge turn off

NX isn't even challenging anyone you mentioned. And it has a lot of great releases(if it follows previous generations). You don't need half-assed games based on guns and killing just to be successful. Most people would take an Animal Crossing game over most of the Assassin Creed's games.

Oh, and stop with the all capitals and unnecessary bold. You make this harder to take serious(that is if this isn't a horrible method of bait).

But how can you play GTA on a mobile? And streaming PS3 games? I can't imagine in my head how they can be played on a tiny smartphone.

30 million units of NX in its lifetime... Now that would be a huge fail. You're not the only one on VGC predicting such low numbers.

the real question is would people even care? Do normal people really need bleeding edge graphics for their mobile device? when i say normal i mean non forum goers

Well... There will always be a market for handheld games so I don't think it will fail. Nintendo =/= Sony for better or for worse. Yea we have some games on smartphones like the ones you mentioned but most of those games are mobile oriented or just old ports. Samsung, Apple and Google aren't really pushing mobile games that much but rather just make the platform be complatible with a wide variety of APIs and etc... Where as NX will have Nintendo's IPs as well as third party support. I mean, where are all the vita devs and 3ds devs gonna go?

They can't charge $40 on a game on mobile... It just won't work proven by virtually zero games with that price tag. Most games on mobile are either free or very cheaply priced and no one has any idea whether or not their game gonna be a success.

The only way NX will fail is if they price it stupidly (Above $250 but even thats pushing it) and make the same mistakes they made this generation such has terrible naming, terrible marketing and etc.

Oh and not to mention most smartphone batteries go RIP when playing demanding games for long periods of time.

But GTA sold tens of millions of copies on mobile.... And runs very well at a high resolution vs console.....

And most smartphones are becoming bigger and bigger, in face the average galaxy has a bigger screen than the PS Vita....

That handheld market is shifting towards mobile tho, I truly feel that if Sony launches PS now on mobile, that's going to really hurt Nintendo, and end the Vita, you could run PS now on a 5 Mbps connection.... And most LTE is over 15mbps

In my opinion dedicated gaming handhelds are dead and they should be dead. 3DS is selling only on the back of a strong exclusive lineup and only got that lineup because of strong sales while smartphones were not as prevalent and powerful as they are now.

That's why Nintendo is doing a hybrid. Because doing them separate would mean miserable sales for both, so they combine them. A sad move for console gamers but a smart move for Nintendo.

Also, no one gives a shit about PSNow on mobile. Hell, no one gives a shit about PSNow on anything currently.
