Forums - Nintendo - MCV: NX Graphics In Between A PS3 And PS4

I guess we will have to see which games continue to get announced for this thing. If there's more PS4/XB1 titles like Sonic and Dragon Quest XI that keep getting announced it must be capable of some degree of ports.

Also the Nvidia Hotchips convention on Aug 22 will show us the Tegra X2, that will be interesting to watch.

oh come on, those two games mean nothing as they arent going to require that much power to push anyway. Now if they start annoucing stuff like Fallout, FF15 or games that we know will really push things then you have a leg to stand on.

I do not think you understood the point of my post. My point was that improving hardware for hand helds is making it easier for franchises to create console quality titles. No, it may not get direct ports, but if the hardware is above Wii U level, then it is not unreasonable to say developers will at least try to make a mainline title or two for the console. The hardware gap is not as huge as it once was. It may not get ports, but it does not need them. It does not need Resident Evil 5, 6, or 7 when Resident Evil: Revelations was so good that it got ported to consoles. You do not have to make a game and then downgrade it anymore, you can make a game and upgade it now because the hardware the gap has closed that much. That is how I think this console can fit into the market alongside those other consoles if the rumors are true. Hypothetically, you can make Resident Evil 8 on NX and then upgrade it (graphically mostly) to PS4 or XBOX one. There is nothing stopping developers from doing that on a content level any longer. The hardware does not stop them.

The graphical argument was simply added to keep an understanding that I meant my comment from a content and game play presective and not from a graphical prespective. I understand there will be people that say the game will not be the same graphically but I am seeing that content wise, they can pull this off.

Re Revelations probably got ported because it didnt sell enough on 3ds for Capcom (good move looking at sales of PS3 version) thats the only reason that makes real sense. Other that that I agree with you. I just dont think the general audience will really give a damn either way. If they did portable gaming wouldnt be on the decline like it already is IMHO.

Too many opinions there and not enough facts. We have no idea why they ported it to consoles. Maybe it made sense from a few different prespectives. One being, it was a console game on a hand held. I mean, there are lots of games that do not sell well on hand helds that do not get console versions. I am not saying you are incorrect; rather, we both could be correct. There is too much specualtion there for my likes.

Your second opinion is moot as it seems all gaming (console and hand held) is on the decline. Which would lead to a discussion about if the general audience gives much of a damn about anything gaming related right now.  As long as there is a healthy market (and I think 60 million gamers is a healthy market), those kinds of specualtion lead us nowhere, quickly.

yeah people have to remember that this is supposedly primarily a handheld device that can function partially as a home console (if the rumors are to be believed)

to have specs not far behind the current generation (PS4) ON THE GO is incredibly sick, I mean I almost can't imagine what it would look like to pull out a device from your pocket that looks that good. Its new territory and actually pretty impressive

This thing will have good sales in Japan.

Most likely it will be the no.1 system in Japan.

Let's hope.
But let's also hope it's a big draw card for western developers as well.

Interesting thing about that is a source at NeoGaf has said CPU wise, the NX apparently is better than the PS4 (which isn't saying a ton since the PS4 CPU is weak).

But ok, lets say the NX has an equal better CPU + say 4-6GB of RAM ... what else would be the hold up?

ARM A57 @ 2Ghz should be roughly equivalent to Jaguar @ 2Ghz.
And considering we have had ARM cores faster than the A57 for a long time now... Well. You get the idea.

Where Jaguar in the consoles comes out ahead... Is with the sheer number of Cores.
Tegra "X2" will likely adopt a Big.little approach using quad ARM A57 + Denver2 cores, where-as Jaguar can use all it's cores all the time.

If the NX uses a dual-channel LPDD4 interface, then that will hold it back, especially at high resolutions.

It will likely have inferior geometry performance due to the culling of polymorph engines.

GPU efficiency should be a big step up over Graphics Core Next 1.0 in the consoles, tiled based rasterization, compression, more efficient culling all helps, but AMD has it's own architectural advantages that isn't to be understated. (Like Async compute.)

PSP and Vita were still way too far behind their equivalent consoles to have direct ports, I think NX will be different.

I think NX is also a much larger tablet form factor, no way is this a tiny little portable having detachable controller sides or being able to run a Tegra X1 either.

This concept like it or not, really hasn't been done before in gaming to this extent any time recently.

you can grab any tablet and buy a buy a controller for it. Its not that different

what tablet are you suggesting on the market right now can play games at anywhere close to a PS4 level? you're full of it. sure, the concept of tablets existing that you can game a bit on is a reality, but we're talking a dedicated gaming device that can potentially play current gen games on the-go. That is a totally new thing

so you say the game was so good it was ported to other consoles? where are your facts. Im basing my opinion on what these companies have done in the past. Hell maybe it was the plan all along.

Fair enough. but if you think 60 mil is healthy then the Wii U is pratically cancer ridden and having to combine your handheld and home console to get to 60 mil is...kinda sad IMHO

thats not what he said. he said the concept is new and it isnt. Whether if could play PS4 level games or not doesnt mean its a new concept.

People really think its going to be close to PS4? Yeah im not holding my breath on that, unless Ninty is going for something expensive or they are going to take a loss on each system sold. Judging by history i know what route they will probably take

I still think there's more to the NX, Nintendo made patents for motion sensor/hand sensors and one of the patents even had a tablet like device with a small projector on it.

My guess is the general idea is this is a tablet/mini-laptop sized device that is supposed to get people to get around it and play together. It's a table top entertainment device.

people, a handheld with this type of graphics is unbelievable.

And at an affordable price? dear god.

I am sorry but its not. The PSP and PSV came out while the PS2 and PS3 qere still Sony's main console. They pretty much jump a generation ahead and catch up hardware wise with Sonys handheld trend.

"Sonys handheld trend" made me laugh.

Sony is not even a competition for Nintendo in the handheld market. Vita is dead and chances that there will be a new generation are very very slim.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
