I think that might be a problem though. Disney have shown they are good at marketing and selling new IPs, so if they can continue to make new IPs for much cheaper why go and spend billions on already established IPs. I know they bought Star Wars but the whole of Nintendo would be more expensive than that and include stuff (the hardware part) that isn't likely to be of much interest to them.

But Mario and Nintnedo's other IP's are so famous worldwide, even more than Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck. That would be a great addition to Disney's current line up of characters.

I agree about the hardware though, doubt Disney is interested in that part of Nintendo.

While Mario sure seems ubiquitous, Mickey Mouse is iconic in markets that Nintendo doesn't even bother to attempt to enter...

And given that Disney has pretty much given up entirely on the console market (they're even abandoning Disney Infinity), it seems less likely than ever that they would consider Nintendo a worthwhile investment...

Have a nice day...

Sony or don't get bought at all.

Sony has nowhere near that kind of money.

Considering Sony is worth more than Nintendo they could buy theme but they would have little money left. Nintendo will probably beg Sony to buy them and will even lower the price too. Have you forgotten Sony is not just in the Game Business.

just an FYI it would be roughly impossible for Apple to buyout Nintendo even if they wanted to- Japan has extremely strict conditions for their home company's being acquired, it is extremely rare for an outside company (Apple being American) to be allowed to take over a company of Nintendo's size, legislation and laws just almost completely prevent it

beyond that, generally a company can only easily be taken over if A) the company is doing well or B) those in control of the company want that. I believe that the founders of Nintendo still have a big stake in the company and they certainly aren't doing poorly enough for it to be a pressing subject in board meetings, there is massive potential for Nintendo's IPs in the future

again, generally a buyout is something investors and board members look to consider when the potential and upside for a company is looking limited. Nintendo is the opposite of that. and in terms of a hostile takeover- it would neverrrrrrrr get through the Japanese government, I can't recall one time a large Japanese company was bought out from outside

the only market that Mario is not extremely well known and prevalent would probably be large portions of Asia (China?) but that has more to do with the fact that the console game market has been pirated and/or outlawed in that region for many periods of time

One hour and 5 pages. Any title with Apple in it brings in the clicks, a click bait for all! The obsession is real

While Disney would benefit from it more than Apple would I still don't think it would be a great move for them either. Nintendo are just way too expensive at the moment. Disney would be better off making a deal with Nintendo for those things rather than trying to buy them.

Yeah you're right. At this very moment, Nintendo is expensive, but they can get a good deal once the stock price plummets again .

In the long run, buying them out is cheaper than making a deal. If they only make a deal, they would have to split the profits for everything.

you're looking at this like going to a store to buy a product- you can't simply 'buy' a company of Nintendo's size like bam, wham, thank you mam'. It doesn't just happen overnight.

Generally a company of Nintendo's size- the people in control (investors, board members, etc.) need to be on board. also Japan (the government) almost never allows foreign takeovers of their larger internal companies. It just won't be allowed.

Edit: Also, 20 billion is probably nothing for Apple to spend their money on.

20 billion? Because that's what Nintendo's current market cap is? Yeah, I don't see that happening. I doubt there's been a single case where a hostile takeover has been done at the current share price. Apple just being linked with a buyout, let alone actually trying one, would probably push the share price up quite a bit. Wouldn't be at all surprised if it cost 40 billion or more to complete the deal.

As for whether it would be worth it... I sincerely doubt it. I can't see having Nintendo games on iOS doing much for it. You'd assume the majority of people who want an iphone/ipad already have one and if they don't have one I don't see why Nintendo games alone would persuade them. Besides, there's probably a fair few Nintendo fans who already have one either so even if they all did follow Nintendo wherever they went that wouldn't be much of a boost either.

I can't see Nintendo hardware getting any better under Apple, just getting more expensive. So I doubt that would sell much more than it currently does. And as for their software... well some people think Nintendo games would turn to crap if they made it for other platforms, although I give Nintendo more credit as a developer than that, but with Apple calling the shots it may well end up with a decline in quality.

this- a company is not just going to sell necessarily for its market cap. Just the IP of something like Mario is probably worth an unknown amount of billions. I mean the Pokemon COmpany itself probably has a buyout price in the billions

bear in mind you have companies like Activision buying MOBILE game developers for billions

again though, Apple can't just 'buy' Nintendo. It doesn't work that way. if it were that simple Microsoft would have attempted to do the same in the 90s when they were entering the gaming market and expressed strong desire to work with Nintendo (I believe I've even heard former execs mention talk about the company considering trying to acquire Nintendo), its just nigh impossible with the regulations in Japan

Yes, I know. But this thread was about Apple buying out Nintendo, so if we can discuss Apple taking them over, then why not Disney? I know It's all just wishful thinking.

One question I have about Japanese foreign ownership rules: what if a Japanese subsidiary of a foreign company takes over another Japanese firm? Is that allowed?

I don't think you know how this works.  And adding a self-gratifiying wish on top of it proves it.

Your're right I'm young and I don't know how it works, but I do know that Sony has a Movie business, a Phone business, a Music business and you're telling me that they can't buy Nintendo still? I don't think so.
