Forums - Nintendo - So Nintendo should go 3rd Party, right? What about everyone else?

Did anyone really claim Nintendo should go 3rd party?

I thought the usual argument is that they eventually will have to.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I keep seeing this and i dont buy it, there is no such thing as a PS or Xbox fanbase imho when it comes to actual games. How much of those Wii U owners also own a PS4, Xone or PC? I imagine most of them. Same goes for 3DS. If they are buying those systems to play Ninty games why would they NOT play them on other devices, and how much more people will be willing to buy those games if are on systems they already own. I'm not saying Ninty go 3rd party, im just saying the whole PS/XB fans wouldnt buy those games is false, as they are already doing so.

Literally all i mean by that is the people who own a PS or XB console.

I didnt say that they wouldnt buy those games, just saying the success of a free to play mobile does not prove that $60 Nintendo games will see a massive increase on PS/XB.

I think there is a lot more interest than you think

And I 100% agree with your 2nd point, some people are getting way too hyped up.

Well considering that about 3/4 of retail sales on PS4/XBO come from the shooter/sports/action genres, i would say that the interest level for most Nintendo games isnt that high from PS4/XBO owners.

Easy. All companies should go 3rd party. That's not even a debate.

that doesnt really mean much as they are just the popular games right now. COD and GTA sell more than most Ninty games that doesnt mean there isnt any interest in other games. Ratchet and Clank are at a mil hell even Rayman Legends did better than the WIi U version and it came much later. To say they only care about those types of games is a little ignorant. How much of those WIi U owners have a PS4 One or PC? If they bought a Ninty system to play those games why would they not buy it on a system they already have anyway? I like Ninty games and dont mind buying the systems to play them. But im never NOT going to get a PS system as i dont want to miss hundreds of games that dont make it to Ninty systems. So i would def buy them on PS if they ever came and i know im not the only one.

You are actually kinda supporting my post.

Ratchet & Clank, Rayman Legends, Plants vs Zombies, Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Lego games all sell in the 1-2 million range on PS4/XBO, the same goes for most racing, JRPG & fighting games so there is nothing to suggest that the likes of Mario, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Mario Kart, Splatoon, Smash Bros, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Captain Toad, Luigi's Mansion, Kid Icarus, Animal Crossing, Tomodachi, Mario Party Xenoblade, etc. would have large increases.

And if PS4/XBO owners also own a 3DS/Wii U to play these games than that just further supports what im saying.

The reasons some people tell Nintendo should go 3rd party is a combination of factors that does not exists for others :
- they don't make most of their money from 3rd party, so they don't financially need that much their own platform
- they have some of the most selling IPs, the more platforms, the more users, the better the sales would be (clearly a mario kart on all platform would sell like crazy)
- their Wii U is a huge failure

Clearly, Sony or MS would be only relatively small 3rd party. Sony is currently going for a billion dollar profit yearly, with hardware sales, 3rd party licences, 1st party, and PSN. They would never make it as a 3rd pary.

On the short term, I have little doubt that Nintendo could sell more on PS4/XOne/PC combined than just on the Wii U, because it's a market more 10 to 20 times bigger. On the longer term, moving from a hardware they can develop for a limited cost, with maximum visibility to the wide market where they are just one of the many 3rd party, fighting in niche genres, it's quite a risk.

Anyway, I don't think gamers would be winning that much, we have a steady competition, different consoles for different gamers. I don't really get that people want a console with all games. If only one hardware maker, that would mean no competition, slower progress, longer generations, higher prices. And if different hardware makers, then what, we will have multiple hardware, multiple specifications, compatibility issues, someone will add extension port, memory slots, new models every years and that will be exactly the PC.

The reason I say Nintendo should go 3rd party is because its hardware does not sell well. this hinders its potential sales of games.
As for microsoft I dont really care because they dont do games I really wanna play.

As for sony as long as its hardware keeps doing well then they should stay as is.

So you're saying that they wouldnt play the Ninty games since they have something similar on the system? If people are buying the Ninty systems just to play the games and they already have a PS4/xone why wouldnt they just buy those Ninty games if it came to their system?

Nintendo hardware sold best last generation.  So Sony and MS should have dropped out and joined Nintendo?

Hell, they should all drop and go PC if sales potential is the stipulation.

why talk about last gen, when we are in this one?
