Splatoon is a GREAT GAME and to me it's Nintedo's Best IP of this generation... Not so far but of this generation. Splatoon is my 3rd most played Wii U game as of right now (Behind Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros). I play hours weekly and it's rapidly catching up on Mario Kart and I'm not sure if Splatoon will suprass Super Smash Bros and I'm not sure what game will be played more than the other in the end. But we'll see. but as of right now I been kicking so much ass with Splatoon.

While having the best shooter experience ever with Splatoon... I've learned that it seems like Nintendo never really went all in while making this game. Look at Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8. Their graphics are AMAZING and loaded with content!. I know graphics shouldn't matter much when it comes to games but look at Splatoon's graphics. When you're in the Plaza, it looks less than HD to me. When you're playing turf war the graphics aren't as good with Mario Kart or Super Mario 3D World at all... not even close.

When the game launched there was soooo many complaints about Splatoon not having enough content. Just a story mode and Turf War.. that's it lol. Another game I like to compare this to is Fast Racing Neo... Very similar with the content and graphics. This is just a small theory I feel that's true. What do you think?       

By what metric would Splatoon be even remotely an indie game?

As things stanbd now, its a full budget game, at least in quality.But when it was released, with the content it had and all, it was more of a AA game than an actual AAA game.

An indie game is a game made independently of any big studio, either developement or publishing. Splatoon is a Nintendo game, made and published by Nintendo, so by definition it's not indie.

Its a retail game like many other games, Atelier Sophie and other JRPGs for example who are priced similiar to Splatoon.
But its not AAA, it wasnt priced 70€ for pre order

It's not the budget that define the game as indie.

An indie game is a game produced by an indipendent company, and it's not the case of a Nintendo studio.

Splatoon is what we used to call a MID-TIER game, Nintendo didn't have to spend 20M to make and advertise it. We had games like this during the PS2 era but not anymore now it has to be AAA with a budget of >70M to even get peoples attention or it has to been Indy, there is no room anymore for games like splatoon. Which is very sad.

Can we not do what we did to music an make Indie a type of game. If it's not an independent developer it's not an indie game.
