I'm not a PC genius. Does anyone know which is better- two 1080 cards or the new Titan x?

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Can someone enlighten me on why this costs so much when I can find another graphics card that's cheaper and about the same specs? Well...besides the gbps.

Premium. It's basically the Ferrari of gaming GPUs. For the prize you get the best single GPU performance ever. Unique things are expensive.

I'm normally an Nvidia guy, but this price disgusts me.

I hope AMD come out with something competitive at the high end, otherwise Nvidia are clearly going to take advantage of their monopoly by ripping us off.

I mean $1200 and it doesn't even have HBM memory?

They're being ridiculous...

Does anybody know the diiference in adoption of 970 to 980 to 980ti to titan x?
I knw the 970 killed it, soif this is jst for braging rights and thereal number of consumers for this is like 100 people, then ok. But if they are really trying to sell this thing, the its insane.

I still remain optimistic because the the 7 series also had a $250+  760 card...so I'm noting strategy similarities.

 

If not this is quite disappointing since one expects at least a minimum  30%...stock for stock improvement with a Titan over a 1080...specially seeing the 2x pricetag. It better overclock like hell....which it won't as Titan cards have notoriously been limited by the reference cooler.

Titan X seems like it will be about a 20% improvement over 1080. SLI ranges between a 0% improvement all the way up to about a 70% improvement, depending on the game. SLI is highly variable, some games don't support it at all, others see only a small gain, others see a pretty big gain.

40% is a bit very optimistic don't you think? Putting aside that it wouldn't make any business sense releasing a card that's 40% more powerful, games seem to favor clock over cores and this card has like 20% lower clock than the 1080. I'd say 30% is still optimistic at stock.
