Forums - Gaming - As a console gamer, PC is starting to seem pretty appealling

I started my gaming life with Super Nintendo... Then I had a NES Clone, and more recently a Playstation 2.

Today I'm a PC gamer, and I think I'm not coming back to consoles... You have pretty much everything on PC with awesome quality, except some exclusives, but most of them doesn't appeal to me.

Yeah, PC library is huge. Running an emulator on one is pretty cool, too.

Should of known it wouldnt take you long to come in here with your "PC's cant play games older then 2 years" "PC's are too much hassle" etc etc.

1. If your 1000$ 2 year old Laptop cant play Dramfall Chapters then im sorry to say but you must of got ripped off to the two eyeballs with that thing.

2. No consoles doesnt win. You can build PC's smaller then consoles. And i dont know what crappy TV you have or maybe you just dont know how to set up your PC?. But ive never had any of them problems with Text being too small and over/under scan problems. This leads me to believe that you dont have them problems or you just dont know how to use your pc right or you have a shitty tv with some kinda fucked up res..

3. Why do you always enter positive PC threads with the same bullcrap about how your laptop can no longer play games, how consoles are more easier, how you have over scan problems etc etc?. Dont you get it we dont care nor do we want to hear it from you in every thread when its clearly just you spraying bullshit. And yes anyone can look at your PC post history to see that you clearly have a problem with PC. Is your console really not good enough for you? are you bitter you didnt get a better gaming pc instead? just what is your problem?.

No need to get angry. Laptop was a good deal 2.5 years ago, 2.5ghz i7, GT740m, ran ED and most games fine at the time. Dreamfall chapters if horribly optimized, doesn't even run well on a gt1080. It would never have been released in that state on consoles.

Overscan problems on my Projector, eg windows taskbar is half off the screen. Sure it can be fixed yet we're talking about convenience. And no I can't read the tiny font on my tv hence I'm sitting behind my laptop atm. (Not that I would ever want to use VGCHartz on a console)

Isn't this a forum to discuss things while we have nothing better to do for a few minutes? If you don't care, simply skip my posts. I don't force you to read them.

I want to jump it but now $$$ and time is stopping me. I want to play the entire ME trilogy and The Witcher III on a good PC.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

I have a laptop that does everything a pc can do and is easy to transport, why should I buy a pc?

The truth is that it has never been a matter of PC vs Console. Both things can be enjoyed at the same time, and limiting on purpose to just one of them is a shame.

Congrats for realizing that, and for being able to explore all the amazing games and experiences that both consoles and Pcs have for us.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Laptops aren't like desktops. You pay more for the equivalent performance, vast majority of laptops like yours are extremely low-end devices that aren't great/meant for gaming to begin with.
I apologise if you were ever under the assumption that low-end hardware like yours was going to be running the latest and greatest games for years.

.. But to put things into perspective, I have an 8 year old Core 2 Quad PC as a spare/test machine, which is faster than your laptop and it actually still does run the latest games.

Make sure you have actually set your resolution correctly. There are MANY projectors on the market who advertise themselves as "720P" (Aka. 1280x720) but are actually 768P or 1366x768.
Same goes for many TV's.
It can also be adjusted in a couple of seconds in AMD/nVidia/Intel drivers.

Overscan/incorrect resolution issues are an exception not the norm.

It works both ways as well. People are entitled to reply and criticise your points. If you don't like it, you aren't forced to read or reply to them. :P

I feel similarly: the biggest draw for me is the modifiable aspect of PC gaming. Mods to tweak gameplay and various options when it comes to controllers for example. Would certainly love to invest in a powerful rig one day.

I was never under the assumption that it would play the latest games well, just underwhelmed that recommended specs that seem close don't mean anything. Some games run great, some have a lot of problems, not all scales well. My original point was about convenience, you never have to check or wonder if something will be playable on console. Then again, Steam nowadays has a no questions asked refund policy which takes the risk and guess work away, just not for Kickstarter games obviously. The minimum specs of Dreamfall chapters are far below my laptop, Core 2 Duo 2Ghz, Intel HD Graphics 4000, yet on the lowest possible settings it's still unplayable.
It was again the convenience why I mentioned the overscan and font issues. I set my projector up to overscan on purpose (project on the black velt) to remove unwanted artifacts in certain shows. It's only ever a (minor) problem when I connect my PC or laptop.

I enjoy PC gaming a lot, there are tons of great things which I have mentioned before as well. Currently my kids (and I'm peeking in now and then) are enjoying Pokeman Go on my laptop. With the current heat advisories probably the best way to play. I've put 9 months combined into Elite Dangerous on my laptop, much more than any console game. What kept me going was being able to participate on the forums at the same time, organize my screenshots and write a travel log during the down time. There's a lot of that in ED,  which also makes it perfect to have it on in the background. Plenty other Kickstarter games have turned out well and run fine. Which reminds me, I should get back to The way, excellent puzzle platformer.

It's only the convenience factor I do not agree with. You can't go to the store to buy 'the thing' and expect all the games made for 'the thing' to run well for 6 to 10 years to come.

But the op probably meant convenience in a different way, closer to versatility. Which I fully agree with. The open nature of the system has always been very welcome, from modifying exe files with hex editors back in the 80's to simply editing a few ini files to get it the way you want. Or simply copy and replace that save game if it's one of those game over restart games :) If you want more out of your games, PC is the natural place to be.

I'm good with my Xbox consoles long as they keep making them. Otherwise I'll go with Nintendo full out before giving up gaming.
