Laptops aren't like desktops. You pay more for the equivalent performance, vast majority of laptops like yours are extremely low-end devices that aren't great/meant for gaming to begin with.
I apologise if you were ever under the assumption that low-end hardware like yours was going to be running the latest and greatest games for years.
.. But to put things into perspective, I have an 8 year old Core 2 Quad PC as a spare/test machine, which is faster than your laptop and it actually still does run the latest games.

Make sure you have actually set your resolution correctly. There are MANY projectors on the market who advertise themselves as "720P" (Aka. 1280x720) but are actually 768P or 1366x768.
Same goes for many TV's.
It can also be adjusted in a couple of seconds in AMD/nVidia/Intel drivers.
Overscan/incorrect resolution issues are an exception not the norm.
