Forums - Website Topics - When will the iPhone begin to be tracked?

Hey guys,

I've been a big follower of VG for years now. I have made a good amount of money investing in vg stocks using your data.

I'm not sure if you guys heard, but Apple is making its way into gaming. As kotaku points out, it is more powerful than the PSP and more novel then the DS.

I'm not you if you guys know but Steve Jobs first job was at Atari and Steve Wozniac created Breakout, that game in the iPod. Also, the first Mac was made specifically to make game programming easy. This move has been a long time coming.

 What are your thoughts?

Why would IPhone be tracked? I mean, what's next, will PMP be tracked too?

Don't get me wrong, I own an IPhone and I love it, but I see absolutely no need to track IPhone sales. Or else we have to track every single cellphone as they all have gaming feature.

man, imagine bundled cell games? You will have top 10 consist of Tetris and Snake. LOL

I get your point, but the iPhone looks like it has been made specifically for gaming. The only real gaming phone that I can think of is the NGage. But that doesn't even sell.

Apple is coming after the DS and the PSP directly with the iPhone. I think the case can be made to track it once games come out for the iPhone, but I think the phone should definitely be tracked.

The iPhone is also well on its way to selling 10 million units in its first year also. The arrival of the 2.0 update will be a industry changing event. Can you not see kids begging for an iPhone instead of a PSP or DS? Can we not see dirt cheap iPhones not to far into the future? Remember the iPod was once had a $300 price tag.

the iphone is not a games device yet maybe in time but not this early.  it also doesn't help that in a lot of countries you can't even buy them. (unless its changed recently to get one in canada you have to buy one off an importer and then take a cell phone card out of another phone to be able to use it)

The iPhone isn't a dedicated gaming system, so probably never. It would be like tracking cell phones.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

not a gaming system. when apple releases its console/handheld gaming system, then yes it will be tracked.

Coolestguyever: this IS Apple's entry into the gaming industry. Its the first true convergence devise. It does it all.

The fact that its sold MILLIONS of units already puts it in contention with the PSP already. Analysts are predicting that Apple will sell 8 million of these things this QUARTER.

When the iPhone 2.0 software update gets into public hands, I think this website should start tracking.

Right now its probably still too premature, sure. BUT I'm suggesting to do so soon to be the premiere site to do so.

I get what you're shooting for rismay. And it is a very interesting question. But ultimately there is a dedicated game system distinction. Or should I say "Primarily a gaming system"

Perhaps it would be different if the Iphone was a game system right off the bat. But it wasn't, which complicates things further.

Ultimately, I'd say it's a combination of the difficulties of tracking and the nature of the unit that will prevent it from being tracked.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

never its not a gaming system
