I to disliked Halo CE from the start but a couple of years later I realized it was one of the best games I've ever played.

It's sad when you have avidly played every Halo game and then you ask yourself "Who the heck is that guy?" or "Why are we here?" because the games jumped into the expanded lore and ditched any kind of continuity.

I think the declining moment for me in the franchise started with Halo Reach Multiplayer though, no longer were you being strategic on where you went on a map to secure power weapons or pick up armor abilities... You started off with them/had drops. - And that was a big part of Halo 3 for me, you needed to learn the maps to get the things or work with team mates to secure those areas.

Halo 1 though, was a ripper of a game on the Original Xbox back in the day, heck I even enjoyed the Library, especially on Legendary, split screen (Halo 5 doesn't have this) whilst drinking with mates.
I also had it on PC back then and the campaign managed to shine brighter thanks to 60fps, higher resolutions, better shaders, shadowing, textures etc'.

God i miss the first 3 halo's multiplayer. Drops/Perks are dumb as fuck. But alas all the noobs had to get their Call of Duty with energy shields experience so Starting with Reach everything went downhill massively. Good memories of Halo. Truely the best FPS series from 2001 - 2009 bar none.

Halo 3 was just big, loads of fun, feature rich. There is a reason why it took years for it to be dethroned as the most played game on Xbox Live.
Now it's all drops, perks and microtransactions. :(

My GFs son, at the time, got an Xbox with the original Halo. I had a PS2 and so did his cousin. He was maybe ten years old or something. I was such a fanboy, I decided nothing would make me like the Xbox. His cousin and I criticised Halo so badly that he sold it for store credit and got a GBA, Dragon Ball Z, Golden Sun, and Castlevania.

I've always felt bad about that.

After playing Halo 3, I realized the series was great and I've since gone back and played them all. I also bought him an Xbox 360 last gen and an Xbox One this past Christmas.

I've been playing through MCC for a past few days. I bought it back in 2014 to give another chance to Halo because I really hated CE when it was released. I played couple of missions and uninstalled it.. I did like Halo 5 alot so I thought CE deserves one last chance.

So few days ago I finished CE and this time.. Yeah, still hated it heh. Some gameplay mechanics, enemy AI are good and I suppose they did what they could with improved graphics. But missions like Library nearly sucked the joy of life out of me. Flood is like the worst designed enemy ever and maps are awful. I never want to play it again.

Fortunately Halo 2 was something else entirely! Such a huge step forward in every aspect, I can't stop playing Halo now and I finally understand why it's so popular.

I'm now at "infinity" mission of Halo 4 and enjoying every moment of it.

I've seen a few youtube videos where people play Halo for the first time and the newer games+halo 3 seem to be quite popular. I think we are seeing a new generation of Halo fans coming out and it's really great to see. The games would however, need some kind of recap at the start of each game so that people can get into the story if they want to.
