Multiplayer ruins the point of the game and makes it into yet another shooter, so i am happy to have it be this way.
The point is to feel the vasteness of the universe. That can only be achieved in a lonely journey of exploration.

Be exploring this game (preferably with Eve Online or Interstellar music, while watching star trek (shows and movies, I'm on TNG) at the same time. T'will be glorious.
I think multiplayer would be great. Just because it's a exploring game. Doesn't mean, the game makers can't come up with scenarios. And you're also forgetting about mods. Just like Minecraft. The base game could get boring. But if you install 20 key mods people have made. You'd never get bored. And have fun. Half the stuff in Minecraft. Like the Forestry mod. Basically would be perfect for No man. And once people start making Star Trek, Star Wars, Metroid, Halo, and Stargate mods. People will be playing the game and goofing off, for years. Gmod isn't even a game. But people still play it. Because of the stuff that modders have come up with. If the modding tools are that flexable. And you can build planets, supply runs, insert custom ships etc. People can easily recreate Best Of Both Worlds, from TNG. as an example.
Yeah, Spore is the obious comparison. But that game was controlled by EA. It was planet based only. Non humans. Even if modding was possible, you were limited. Spore could never be a Minecraft. No Man Sky could potentinally be. I'm not saying it's a auto win. We don't know if this company can handle the game. But since they have no bad track record. I keep an open mind.
Wait, I thought it had multiplayer in it? I remember hearing the devs say you could meet other players but would be rare to do so since the universe is large.
I feel this game needs some sort of multplayer component to remain relevant long after its release date.

my bet is if you want to see other people all you have to do is hang out near the center of the universe and you'll see plenty.

Yes.
Plus people completely gloss over the fact your friends locations are visible on the galaxy map. Finding other players will be pretty easy.

Right now the MP mode is limited like SSX was. Were your data interacts. But your characters can't.

They haven't released them yet but it should be coming soon since the PC release isn't far off
I'm ready for this game and all it hopes to achieve through exploration, trade, faction wars and mystery.
