Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo initially projected the Wii U to sell 100 million units

Some guy doesn't mean Nintendo as a whole though, but it made sense at the time with the Wii doing so well

Oh yeah and based on that lonesome projection they released a console with no game support shedule, no online support and comunity, no eshop, and it was supposed to sell?
This is a disaster

You basically left out biggest reasons why Wii U failed, like terrible and misunderstood reveal, marketing and naming, weak launch and 1st year titles, high price compared to competition, unappealing gamepad..

Like I thought, Nintendo thought Wii U will sell great just if they have Wii name and all Wii owners will rush to buy it, even with many serious mistakes they made with Wii U.

Like they said before, with Wii U they were too relaxed buy Wii success, Wii U is much needed slap of reality in Nintendo face, definitely that will have huge good effect on NX.

Nintendo /=/ someone (awesome logic OP)

34 years playing games.

The dude (whomever he was) thought the Wii brand was that strong. This tells me a lot about his way of thinking. This was obviously a businessman who was looking only to the total sales and wasn't sensible to the consumer feelings. He was definitely oblivious to how the Wii brand, and Nintendo's support of the console, was perceived after the first few years.

People here like to act that wiiu failed because of its bad name, marketing, etc, when customer dissatisfaction (imo) was the reason people weren't intrested in a successor in the first place. Same with psp and vita. The ps4 has been so successful thanks to Sony making ps3 owners want more.

Wow. Nintendo was really overconfident about the Wii U. If Nintendo was going to achieve getting sales close to the Wii, they should've been more prepared for HD gaming, advertised the system better than they did, and given the Wii U a different name so that people didn't think that it was an addon for the Wii.

The problem was with wii rather than wiiu. The wiiu had plenty of well received games and got a lot of them from the get go. But people had already been burnt so they had no reason to own a similar console.

More proof that Nintendo doesn't look at the actual market--they go off of what they think SHOULD happen. There were so many things stacked against the Wii U, but they couldn't see any of it because of the Wii's success.

Too many "yes" people, and not enough that actually look at the details.

LMFAO

Epic fail

I would say he failed miserably in convincing the public of the value and advantages of the product and hit the target projection.
