Forums - General - Why Don't You Participate In Mega Threads?

It's less attention whoring for me. There's less chance for anyone to see my trollish comments and I don't get satisfied.

Also, I don't like to be called a part of a group. Especially the Xboners. 😥

To be honest, I just forget they exist sometimes and other times, I didn't know they existed. None of the official mega threads are stickied so you have to dig for one if it's not on the front page. I remember one new person started a anime mega thread without realizing there was one already. It would help a great deal if all of the active mega threads were stickied so anyone interested in those topics could find them.

I feel like a bunch of others. A mega thread comes across as a giant fraternity that I'm not always welcome to be apart of because I got there too late and I'm not interested enough to spam posts or whore for attention. Newer threads are a lot easier to feel like you're a contributor to discussion.

This isn't a criticism toward the anime thread, I think I checked it out once or twice, but my usual impression of the mega threads is that they aren't formatted well.

The first post on the page should be updated to include the new topics. It's really hard to navigate the hudnreds of posts to find where the thread title is referring to when it is updated with new content. First post should have a list of the most popular anime of the current season, a couple of news pieces, and maybe some pics of upcoming things.
Instead, this stuff is typically scattered throughout the thread.
(again, this is not directed at the anime thread, just using anime as an example)

I come on here for a mix of different views, there has been a few times where I've dropped links of my sale threads into the relevant megathread just to let the people in those threads know that such a thing is ongoing if they have missed it but at the same time like others have said, they're so meandering and off topic it's just pretty much a waste of time to look to jump into the middle of a conversation which has been on going back and forths for 3+ years in some cases.

For me those threads and the main reason I avoid them, is they come off to me as a giant circlejerk fest over the subject matter in the title, I love the newly created threads where people from all fanbases jump in to have their opinion but if it's the megathreads of where people who are fans of other systems are seen as outsiders if there is any news regarding their platform of choice it's just a stream of "I love this" replies, I mean people who are already 1000 posts to a thread invested in saying they like the platform the thread stands for... is it a shock that they think that news of any kind about that platform is a good thing? I don't really find it as such if I'm honest about the whole things.

I don't mean to sound too harsh on those threads and if you are running one and you are open to people who disagree with the mega aspect of the thread being criticized then fantastic, maybe drop a link to that here and point to where people are in general all discussing a bad aspect of the platform which the thread is based upon I would love to see a thread like that.

I'm not targeting any one of the main platform threads as being a circlejerk btw, I think all of them in terms of the main consoles / PC all maintain that aspect for me at least, but hey, that is just my reply to the OP question of why I personally don't go in those threads, there isn't intention to cause offense to the people who love going into those threads because they know each user inside them and they know that those users are more welcoming to talk and news about their favourite brand.

As someone who runs one of these, I'll take note of this..

Mega-threads just aren't specific enough for me. I prefer the metrics dictating social integration versus just throwing my random thoughts on the pile.

Feel free to check out my stream on twitch

because i'm an asshole and the mega threads were created to shield themselves from people like me.
i can respect that.

The only mega thread I post in and follow is the vita one because great nexus for information on platform I love without being overwhelming.

I rarely feel like have anything to add to other mega threads and tend to prefer specific threads on a game or topic as it is more accessible.

I don't reply in those threads, because everyone has already expressed my thoughts and opinions. I read them though.
