1) not having a high-end rig
2) plug-and-play gaming
3) X360 backward compatibility
4) couch co-op in front of a large HD monitor

And yes I know that you could plug your computer into the TV and play with Xbox controllers, but let's assess the situation honestly. A lot of people - even those with PCs - enjoy the convenience and simplicity of using a console in a living room.

And, if we continue to be honest, let's face the ugly truth that many who mock this decision never intended to buy an Xbox One and are simply using this lack of "exclusivity" to twist the knife, so to speak, in Xbox fans.

If you're a fan of video games - truly a fan of games and not just a console partisan - how can this be a bad thing? More people get to play the Halos, Forzas, and Gears of the world. That's more people who will be introduced to Microsoft series and who may buy dedicated Xbox hardware in the future. And for those who've already invested in the Xbox One ecosystem, don't worry. Software is still on the way and, based on the announcements at this most recent E3, Microsoft has no plans to exit the hardware game anytime soon.

It's a bad thing for the Xbox brand, as now PC owners likely won't buy an Xbox, and other gamers who dislike the brand don't need to support the platform.

What's good for Xbox is good for Microsoft, but what's good for Microsoft isn't necessarily boudoir Xbox. Should the brand not perform, it will likely be dropped in favor of a more open-ended "windows gaming box" setup, alá Steam Box. I'm sure Achievements will be moved over and whatnot, but the Xbox division itself could see a large cut in funding if not become defunct entirely, replaced by software teams.

In short: Xbox fans better get comfortable with their PCs, because that's likely where they're heading.

I agree 100%.

So people who prefer to game on PC will continue to do so, but will now possibly buy Xbox software. And gamers who never wanted to buy an Xbox will continue never wanting to buy an Xbox.

How is that a problem for the Xbox brand? Seems like Xbox games are getting more exposure for those who wouldn't have invested in Xbox hardware either way.

It's a windows10 box now, Sony really destroyed the competition this gen.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

It's actually good for the XBox Bran. If they ar interested in xbox games and won't buy an xbox they will still give MS money by buying the games and this money can be invested into new games and ips and the Xbox as a whole will get more games. I doubt this will have a big affect on console sales. Those that don't have a PC can still get a cheaper Xbox for $300.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I love how people talk down on Microsoft for doing this but they love Sony for forcing them to buy a ps4 if they want tho play their games. The people who say all this stuff like you said are not true fans of games but fans or certain platforms.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

I'll never buy an Xbox again. If I got one for free, I would pawn it for heroin money. I have never used heroin, but I would be slightly more apt to becoming a junkie than I would to supporting an Xbox platform. Sony, Nintendo, ISIS. Almost anybody could make a console I would buy before one made by MS.

People are still going to buy Xbox and Amazon is showing that.

No one said people won't buy it. The point of it was simply questioned.

And the question was asked for years now but again people are still going to get the Xbox One S regardless.

Proud to be a Californian.

I'm a PC gamer. I still own an Xbox One and an Xbox 360.
Even if their game library's were the same, I would still own all those platforms.

And you know what? I look forwards to the day when I can jump on my PC and play a game with someone who is on my Xbox in the lounge room, exclusives don't appeal to me as it goes against that.

Buy once, own on all platforms, great for the pocket and a massive selling point over Playstation in my opinion.

i don't understand... the 2 people play the same game on 2 different systems at the same time?

i assume you bought 1 copy of the game correct? so how can you play with the person in the living room?

a side question would be, if you already are a pc gamer, why buy a box that literally has no game your pc can't play? on top of it paying every year to be able to play online. it would be more cost effective, not to mention better performance to get a 2nd pc tower for 500/600$

Xbox software? There is no such thing. there is just MS published games.

hereis the issue. Think of Xbox like steam for PC. MS doesmt just make momey from selling MS published games. They make money from selling any game thats played on an xbox. Thats the whole point of consoles from a business perspective.

Now if no one is buying an Xbox, cause they can get "xbox games" on the PC. Chances are they buy most of their third party games from steam. And MS doesn't get money from those.

I can't understand how people seem to think that all the main reasons for buying an xbox being on PC wouldn't some how affect the sales of the xbox. Ah well.....

To OP. people that just hate or cant wrap their heads around playing on PC will still buy a console. Only difference is that MS has completely now lost the market of people that have a  decent PC but would have bought an xbox just to play xbox exclusives.
