Forums - Microsoft - LIVE On PC Is Free.

The same way anyone who pays for online gaming on a console when you can do it for free on other platforms feels, I'd assume.

If Uncharted 4 was on PC and I was paying to play multiplayer on the PS4 but people weren't on the PC, I'd be pretty annoyed to be honest.

Why?

I thought it would be a big deal but apparantly game sales on pc xbox live are very bad. Someone quoted recently that only 2% of a games sales took play on there. Unless that improves MS really have nothing to worry about in this regard.

It has to be free. PC owners have other options so for MS to compete in the PC space Live is free. Also ab1 owners get more value from paying.

Because, if Sony went the same route as MS, I'd be paying to maintain the servers for people who were getting it for free. If it was just a PC version like SF5 I wouldn't be paying for their servers and I'd know that all the money I was paying was actually going to improve PSN.

I don't see why, you've said here on multiple occasions that you'll never play U4's MP.

There is a console with no charge for online play and yet it sold by farnthe least this gen. Seems gamers on both other platforms don't mind paying for what other can get free.

You don't pay to maintain someone's server. You pay in order to being able to play online; whatever transpires with that money once you've given it to the company that puts the paywall in the first place is up to said company. Likewise, the money spent in order to play online doesn't really go to improve the service. It goes to the company's pockets.

If I was an XBL subscriber I'd be pretty mad about that.

But in reality, how could Microsoft charge on the Personal Computer platform?

For Online Play? The computer customers have had it free for over a decade, so there's no chance of getting them to pay for it.

For Apps? Again, not going to work. Microsoft (nor Sony)don't have any apps exclusive to them that PC people can't already use on their computers (many in better capacity as well).

So with those two keys out of the way, How could Microsoft realistically charge for XBL on the personal computer?

I won't even get into the fact that computer gamers remember the "Games for Windows" very well and how that turned out. And W10 gaming has had a myriad of issues. Lack of access to crucial files for modding being one of many.

If they can't even get trust from the PC community, how can you expect to charge them on anything?

I thought that the reason why Sony fans accepted paid online was purely due to the free games?

Do the PC LIVE subscribers get the same free games XBOX ONE owners get?

Or have we yet again moved the goal posts?

It was but the games are just not up to snuff now so I no longer bother with PS+. When Sony get their act together I might re-subscribe. Those that play online have no choice of course and we all know that the XB1 owners are obsessed with playing online.

One more reason not to own an Xbox.

We get it, the Scorpio gives you nightmares and you feel the need to jump into every MS thread to try derail. At least try to mask your fanboyism via constructive comments, actually adding to the conversation.

Of course Live was never going to be free on PC, there are no where near the amount of PC games MS has released in comparison to X1 and it just wouldnt work. It would be like Steam suddenly announcing the need to pay to play online. Never going to happen.
