Can someone explain what hack n slash is as I was certain GOW was hack n slash.

Anyhu, if not GOW, we are getting Nier Automata which seems to be very much hack n slash. I would argue Bloodborne was hack n slash too with some rpg elements thrown in.

I do hope the genre makes a comeback as it was my favourite during the PS2 era. Even the PS3 had some decent hack n slash games although not as many great ones as the PS2. Maybe a new Lollipop Chainsaw.

the new game is an action adventure game, hack slash would be like Ninja gaiden, Bayonetta, DMC, Dantes Inferno, and the original god of war. The gameplay is hack and slash, this game is more like soul reavers and prince of persia, action adventure.

What's this narrow definition of hack and slash games you speak of?

For example, zelda has an action combat, but the game is far from being a hack and slash. A hack and slash game is all about combat and combos, this new god of war has action combat but the gameplay that was shown, looks like an action adventure game. I don't know about for honor cause i have to see some gameplay first.

it's not a bad thing, just a different type of gameplay.

mount and blade is a community of hack and slash lovers like no other, mount and blade 2 will be the defenition of hack and slash, mods and a big community not for honour

Zelda has never been one though, God of War has always been one.

There will probably be even more weapons that play differently, if you've played any God of War game before.

Its just changing the core gameplay, not moving to a different genre from what I've seen.

Every God of War has been one....except for the new one.

Are you sure you've seen the trailer from E3?

Are you seriously saying the following are the same?

and

You seriously need to re-watch the E3 trailer in that case. They are not the same.

They are not the same but are you so much against a change? They are reinvigorating the series, but the gameplay for God of War is hack and slash. Watch the fights against the smaller enemies and trolls.

Its nothoing like TLOU, other than you having a younger companion. But it plays very differently and has a different vibe than TLOU.

I don't think Nier Automata will sell well, maybe not even a million. Bloodborne was an RPG with hack and slash gameplay, it had a lot of RPG stuff. Maybe you can class Dark Souls games as hack and slash RPG's, but they have a lot of RPG stuff and RPG's sell well so their sales are not a surprise.

Would Bayonetta be considered hack and slash?

If yes, then that one did it. New GoW looks nothing like it predecessors from what I've seen. Which is why I have little to no interest in it.

Yes Bayonetta is. However I'm talking about sales and Bayonetta 2 didn't sell well.

I'm not surprised about the next part, you said the same thing about past GOW games and no that its changed you still comnplain lol.

yeah bayo is a hack and slash, sold one million on wii u and the critical reception was great, but looks like that's not enough cause i don't see many hack and slash games these days sadly :(. although it's not like that genre will sell cod numbers.

God of War doesn't seem to be HacknSlash anymore. Looks more like an Action/Adventure game.

I love how no one here has played the new GoW, yet they are so quick to say what it is and isn't xD
