i would advise you not too. Nintendo just said that after Zelda there will be no more WiiU games coming from them.

No problem for me, there are more than enough games available already and I'm sure the Wii U will keep me busy until NX comes around. I have no problem with using the Wii U just for a year or something, but thanks for the advice!
I also never played on the Wii, so I have a massive backlog.

Good choice Wii U is an excellent console with an established back catalogue. I know people are telling you to wait for NX, but I say take the plunge on a Wii U, at this moment NX is still an unknown quantity and even I'm not going for one at launch. I'm going to see how NX plays out in its first year before deciding, until then I will continue with my Wii U and get Zelda BOTW for that. Splatoon has a great little single player campaign with an excellent final boss, If you like Zelda then your in luck! not only is BOTW coming, you also get 2 great HD remakes in Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, not to mention Majoras mask and Ocarina of time on the Virtual console. On the topic of Virtual console, you have access to NES,SNES,N64,Wii,GBA and DS games plus all Wii games are backward compatible, so there is plenty of Nintendo to catch up on.
Inb4 NX announced to have backwards compatibility with both Wii and Wii U, and each one comes with a ham sandwich.

Yeah, I'm sure that will happen the day right after I got my Wii U! They'll also announce that the system will launch in 2016 after all and cost only 99 € together with Zelda in the package because lol. =D

Yea even with Zelda been the last game the library of the Wii U is very solid and I went through what you said in the OP 6 months back and grabbed myself a Wii U and it has been such a fun console and I still have a massive backlog of games to play and even more if I count in some Wii classics I missed out on, Wii U is still a very good purchase for anyone looking to enjoy some good solid fun games :)
The WiiU is a great console and it's especially great if you skipped a couple of Nintendo generations because of bc and virtual console.
BUT - a lot of the positives about the console and some of it's best games rely on you having a steady (and cheap) internet connection, so I'd recommend you to get one if you want the full potential of the console.
Splatoon and Mario Maker two of the consoles best titles are community based (Splatoons single player, while not bad does not hold a candle to it's multiplayer) and Mario Kart and Smash benefit from it as well, especially if you don't have a large group of friends to play locally with. Last but not least, you can get a lot of great Wii and other VC games on the eshop but they're digital only. (I found I prefer buying the Wii games from the eshop to getting used copys because the Eshop versions skip the Whole 'boot into wii mode' and it makes the experience much more seamless.)
At least where I live you can get Wii Motes pretty cheaply, brand new. I think I paid about 25€ for both of mine. Some of the Wii Virtual console titles like Xenoblade Chronicles also support the gamepad fully, which is another reason I prefer them to physical.

Well, I guess I can use my mobile connection for some Virtual Console titles, I have 20 GB free a month and can get another 20 GB each time for 5 €. So I'm not totally without internet and especially SNES and N64 titles shouldn't be too big. They are also working on getting broadband to my region, but I don't know when that will happen, I will most likely move before that happens anyway. ^^
I'm uncertain with online play. 4G is good enough for that in principle, but I just don't know how much data is being transferred. Would be awesome if someone could check how much data Splatoon uses in one hour of gameplay or something. =)
