Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: "Wii U would continue to fight on, but only Zelda is coming next year"

Sooooo they are happy with 2mil sold?

No, that's their equilibrium point.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Look at question 2... Kimishima seems concerd about VR.

I'm scared.. hopefully Nintendo don't go that road. .-.

Didn’t Nintendo say they weren’t entering VR untill it becomes bigger?
I mean hell isn’t the PS4 VR more expensive than a PS4 itself?

Better to only need 2m to break even than 5m like the Tomb Raider reboot needed.

So it's finally official, Color Splash is the last Wii U game announcement. Talk about going out in flames!

Also the crazy idea some people had where Nintendo would support two HD consoles at once is debunked as well.

"Kimishima: Other companies’ VR presentations at E3 became a topic of discussion. It has captured customers’ interest, and while we’re researching it, we don’t have anything concrete to discuss now."

Dont be scared they arnt doing VR yet.

lol pretty much, if you didn't have the extra controllers or PS move in advance it's closer to $500, and that's still inexpensive by VR standards. VR certainly isn't cheap enough to be mainstream just yet, but it's getting close.

Breath of the Wild will be profitable once the game sells more than 2 million units, which is odd, because it sounds like a tiny quantity for the most ambitious Nintendo game of all time.

Well depends of game, but I think other AAA Nintendo games are profitably with much smaller number of units, 1m of sold copies at most.

There is huge difference when you are 1st party developer and 3rd party developer. :)

BoTW needing 2 million copies sold just to be profitable indicates a budget in the range of like $60 million. There was no way this was ever going to be released only on the Wii U.

2m x $60 (cost of game) is $120m, not $60m.

I don't think they can without pushing out an expensive console (before taking into account the price of the actual VR device), making it too pricy and risky to invest in currently.  If this were a normal Nintendo cycle, I'd say go for it but considering the NX is a mid-cycle console and Nintendo can't take any big and expensive risks, it makes me hope that they take the prudent approach and wait until their next console to get into VR (if VR even gets popular) when the entry point will be a lot lower.

I think they can release VR addon for NX later in life cycle of NX, similar like Sony doing with PS4 Neo, just offcourse much more affordable.

So this basically confirms that Zelda is only Nintendo Wii U game for next year and that Pikmin 4 is not cross console game like Zelda.
