Breath of the Wild will be profitable once the game sells more than 2 million units, which is odd, because it sounds like a tiny quantity for the most ambitious Nintendo game of all time.

Well depends of game, but I think other AAA Nintendo games are profitably with much smaller number of units, 1m of sold copies at most.

"Miyamoto: Breath of the Wild has over 100 staff, and over 300 people in the credits, spending over 5 years. Our current efforts will be helpful in the next production. The costs will be recovered by selling in large volumes, passing 2m sales."

Sooooo they are happy with 2mil sold?

Better to only need 2m to break even than 5m like the Tomb Raider reboot needed.

There is huge difference when you are 1st party developer and 3rd party developer. :)
