Behind a $300 paywall and limited by inferior tech. I'm not advocating for them, but I see their point

Yet again, this could be said about all the home consoles. So Nintendo is behind the other 2 as far as tech, we really do live in a time where this isn't really a problem.

Inferior tech for home console standards. My bad

This new generation of gamers only care about the popularity of a product, not the quality. Damn i miss the 80s and 90s.

I'm sure the 80s and 90s cared more about the box art lol

Growing up I would want to play a game if the box art looked awesome because there really wasn't any internet/media to show the gameplay/trailer.  I couldn't afford buying gaming magazines all the time either.

Its only when CDs came out during the Sega CD and Sony PS1 that box art was more a scam. Most CD based games used CGI pictures for the back of the game box/cases. It was hard to tell which games were good back in the 80s and early 90s but it was all about keen eye and word of mouth. These days’ bad games can sell millions based off brand loyalty and advertisements. 1 million sellers back in the 80s and 90s you knew that game was awesome. These days we see games like The Order break a million which goes to show the type of industry it is today. Its not about the games anymore, it’s all about the brands. That’s the thing that the 80s and 90s didn’t worry about. You still had fanboys however the games did the talking not the consoles etc.

Its the last bastion for family gaming in the console space. Nintendo and Nintendo consoles is pretty much the last place where they can go to get entertainment for the whole family. And unless you want the future gamers of the world raised on zombie violence and shotguns to the face then you will go Nintendo too.

That is simply not true. There are games for the entire family on every consoles.

Nintendo is simply almost exclusively focused on that aspect.

Why can't we get both good games and good features? Is that too much to ask?

It's not. The PS4 and XBO say hello. =P

And PC, of course. Wouldn't want Chazore to jump at my throat for leaving that one out. xD

I disagree with pretty much everything you said.  In the 80s and 90s, it was pretty much impossible to know what you were getting, which is why there was so much shovelware.  Game covers were usually illustrations that had little to do with actual game-play and magazine "reviews" were often fluff.  There was little internet access and no real way to find out if something were good unless it had a big marketing campaign behind it and lots of people had played it.  That's why I ended up renting a lot of junk back then and why terrible licensed games were everywhere.  No one knew what they were getting.  Way, way easier to know if something is a quality release now.

As far as the "brands" thing go, the 80s and 90s were all about brand names.  They were used to decide who was "cool".  I even remember this one rich kid who used to brag about his Intellivision and put down Atari all the time.  The only time I don't remember much fighting was the short period when the NES had no competition.

You mean that console with "inferior tech" that had everyone picking their jaws up off the floor after this E3? (And the NX should be even more powerful.)

I hope you are not refering to zelda. The ONE game that will be supporting the wii u during 2017 (third party and first party). Speaking of 2017, the game was supposed to come out in 2015. Zelda shouldn't have even been shown at this E3, we should be playing it now as we speak. But of course the game was delayed (like many many other wii u games) because of development struggles presented by the hardware. Other big delays include but are not limited to: starfox zero/gaurd, pikmin 3, wonderful 101, watchdogs, rayman, donkey kong country tropical freeze and wii sports hd. Let's not forget about all of the cancelled third party games due to inferior tech such as all of EA, Bethesda, and Slightly Mad Studios.

Did zelda look fun? yeah. Did it look graphically impressive? HAHAHAHA. The tech is the bottleneck. Had nintendo worked on zelda with the ps4's hardware, it would be out now looking better than any other game this gen. Instead we're settling for delays and subpar graphics because of the wii u's relatively poor GPU performance.

I have every right to complain about the wii u's hardware after it's performance this gen.

You buy their hardware because they convinced you that exclusives are a good thing instead of a hideous consumer unfriendly practice to force you on their platform.

This person gets it

You know Final Fantasy did start on Nintendo consoles, and are currently on Xbox. If the PS wasn't around they'd just get the console it went to.

This. Also some forget about the multiverse theory, one decision would have always led to another in some different form, Final Fantasy would have just carried on under Nintendo instead of PS, just like Halo would have carried on if it wasn't bought out by MS.

FF7 couldn't have been on the N64 and carried on.... Were they about to sell you 7 cartriges or 30 N64 DD for $120?  That's why Square left nintendo, Final Fantasy is the worst possible example to back up your claim.  On top of that Sony's huge promotion budget helped it get where it is today.  They already had the 3d demo and they weren't going to fit a 40 hour game on an N64 cartrige.

Nobody was picking their jaws up off the floor" after seeing the new Zelda. Well, unless you mean the already sold biased fanboys who don't know any better.

Majority of people were impressed and hyped because of what the game was aiming for, and for the route the franchise was taking. It wasn't because of any visual spectacle of technical achievements of any kind. If it wasn't a Zelda title, nobody would have reacted the way they did. But because it is a Zelda title, and because it's finally evolving passed the comfort zone it was sitting on since 1997, people are praising the direction it is taking.

Spoiler alert: Don't take any of what I said as negative. I've been a diehard Zelda fan since 1987. And can't wait to play this new game. I've been asking for a return to source for like 3+ titles now (WW aslmost fooled me xD). Saying Nintendo should return to the open/exploration oriented/non hand-holding formula of the original. And it seems like BotW is finally aiming for that.
