i dont think so once nintendo release there next handheld sony will do the same

Ten years makes sense, because the center of gravity for PSP sales will shift from rich nations to the semi-periphery and true periphery -- places with per capita incomes of less than $4000/year, but with huge populations. Due to piracy, Sony won't make too much on software in these markets, but they'll do fine on the hardware.
Also, developers are finally starting to make quality games which fit the handheld aesthetic - e.g. Jeanne d'Arc, MGS Portable Ops, and God of War: Chains of Olympus.
I think the PSP's secret weapon is its combination of multimedia and wireless capacity. This will keep the platform viable way beyond the shelf life of the components.

True ... since the pricedrop in Europe PSPs are selling extremly well ... the funny thing is that a PSP costs the same as a DS here :)

It seems that Sony's strategy is labelling all their products "ten-year products" so they can claim low sales are part of a long term strategy.
Wear gaudy colours or avoid display. It's all the same.
Be warned, I will use walls of polysyllables and complex clauses as a defence against lucid argument.
