I'm thinking of skipping the NX as I already own a Wii U, 3DS and PS4, It will be difficult to convince my wife that I need another gaming box underneath the TV. I have my PS4 for 3rd party stuff, but now Wii U is drying up I need to go elsewhere for my Nintendo fix. As stated, I think another home console is out of the question, so I'm going to go for the next Nintendo handheld. The 3DS is still showing signs of life, and getting a steady bunch of games, but must be approaching the time when a replacement is close. When do you think the next Nintendo handheld will release? Hopefully it has a shared library with NX so I wont be missing out by just choosing one of their next devices.

Skipping NX? We don't even know what the thing is and you're skipping it? I still thing NX has something to do with handheld connectivity. We've not often seen a Nintendo Console launch before the handheld. Or at least around the same time and Nintendo has said nothing about a Handheld or a Console specifically. We can infer that it's a console with Zelda support, but who knows.

To answer your question, I can't say given the unknown state of NX. If Nintendo is to release a traditional handheld, I'd expect it no later than 2018.

Sorry, If NX turns out to be a traditional home console I will skip it, I cant justify yet another home console at this time. Hopefully the NX and handheld have a shared library, because you can get the full Nintendo experience without having to purchase both handheld and console.

If the NX is not a fusion type console, then maybe 2018-19?

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

I just realized that the 3DS is going to last into the lifespan of 3 Nintendo consoles 0.0 (Wii,WiiU,NX)

I think the next handheld will be part of NX. Possibly sold separately, but definitely linked. Male linked, not female linked.

I think there will be an NX Home console and handheld (NX as in same codename, I don't think that will be the final name).

You really think the 3DS has two or three years left in it AFTER 2016? Even though sales have already slowed down substantially?

OT: I think late 2017 at the latest.

Pretty much this if they go into 2018 with no new handheld it will likely be selling at 2016 Wii U numbers by then which is well....

Would be pretty epic to see the release of 2 Nintendo consoles in one year, so I hope for Holiday 2017. To be honest, though, it's reasonably possible that they'll wait a little while longer. But I think it'd be dumb for Nintendo to wait any longer than 2018.
