Forums - Sony - Playstation 4 NEO Launching in 2016, good? Why?

But that would simply render the NEO useless for a few years as most games that would use extra specs of NEO would be AAA games and probably on a 2-3 year development cycle meaning games with NEO enabled mode wouldnt arrive until holiday 2018 and that is probably why they stated games after 1st October require a NEO mode.

Without that requirment date I would expect very few games maybe even close to zero games making use of it this holiday 2016 making a push for poeple to buy a NEO kinda pointless.

Yes, I think you're right. It does make more sense this way.

The PS5 Exists.

I think that is better to launch the Neo the sooner than lather, The Neo is supposed to be a Mid-gen upgrade for the PS4 and the console will not have any Exclusive. I'm still expecting the PS5.

It would makes sense for Sony to release PS5 no later than a year after Scorpio. As for the Neo, it's more like a mid-gen upgrade same as Xbox One S is a mid gen upgrade (if only for its HDR capability). To me they both qualify as minor hardware upgrades.

They don't need to buy a neo to play those games though. A standard PS4 would do fine.

That's really besides the point as to why neo exists...

I just mean this in regards to the OP. There seems to be a sort of implication that people who don't own a PS4 will need to buy a neo in order to enjoy some of the new games coming this year.

so basically, get a gaming PC, a Neo, and NX, and mission complete at this point.

I would say it's very good

I don't understand what isn't a good move by sony?

The Neo-Dev kits have been around for at least 3-4 months so far and initially all the developers need to do is guarantee 1080p as a minimum, then there is isn't much else for them to do to just meet requirements.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony have asked specific developers to make pretty big changes to their games for October and it's a good indicator that launch of the machine is imminent.

Put youself in the developers position. You've been working on a game for two years and you're now in the polishing phase with a release date of October. Suddenly you find yourself having to not only polish the code but make it Neo compatible. That's going to annoy a few developers. If they'd mandated that games 'developed' after October require Neo mode then it would have been integrated into the development process from the beginning. It's till more work but not as bad as suddenly finding out you're not as close to completion as you thought, and it could in some circumstances lead to a delay.

If a dev is developing a 900/1080p game for PS4 at 30fps I really see no issue for them putting it at least at 108030fps on Neo

Developers need to make a really big mess  in order to make games run worse on Neo than on the PS4.

It's definitely presumptuous, but not entirely out if the reason of possibility.

Granted these games need to show obvious improvements or the Neo is a worthlesst buy.

Yeah, I figure there will be Neo versions of games or something, but I don't imagine there being much, if any, Neo exclusive games. That would kinda suck.

NEO will be announced a month before its release, doing this it won't affect sales that much; on the other hand, big mistake by Microsoft who announced Scorpio 1 year and half before its release, and the already poor selling figures of XBox One could be affected even more !

By the way, if NEO comes out by Oct/Nov 2016, this is another win by Sony.

Another big mistake?  They announced the S 2 months before it's release, but the only one available in August is the 2TB $399 model, which means the model that will appeal to the mainstream the most, the $299 500GB model, was announced 5-6 months before release.  It's very apparent MS isn't really concerned with beating, or even matching PS4 sales, now.  I think they are just getting out the S to lower production costs and the Scorpio to not only push Windows 10 gaming, but to also have their own VR solution.  If both fail to really change anything, I can definitely see them dropping HW to push more Windows SW.

I still say they are going to rename it Playstation 4 Super, release it this year and make another console and name that NEO to compete with Scorpio.

Hey it can happen :3
