I think there's a chance the Neo is the slim.

Now that would be incredible. I think a sizable chunk of current owners would be much more compelled to pick up a slim model, no less one that's substantially more powerful. I'd also see this as a huge advantage in the console race

No slim this year if the Neo is coming.
Next year, maybe.

we never know

I don't think we are getting a slim, it goes against every rumor and the logic on why both parties have upgraded I.e.the cost of shrinking the fab was too high compared to upgrading.

The Xbox has a slim as it was oversized to begin with. The only way Sony will shrink the PS4 is by removing the power brick like in the PS2 slim.

The Neo will probably be smaller since it is a smaller fab, will run cooler and probably need a smaller fan as well as being more powerful. It negates the need for a slim, especially since unlike the Scorpio there won't be a 18 month gap between the two releasing.

Why would Sony create confusion by releasing two different PS4 new models together? It makes no sense.
Definitely not happening this year if the Neo is to come.

We never had any confusion regarding Slim, have we? And no one seems confused with the plethora of Cellphones and other eletronics, so I don't think that would be a big issue.

That could have a good impact (similar to what X S is trying)

For example, there are already people confuding the One S with the Scorpio, take the Reggie looking at the One S thread for example, multiple people saying he also wanted 4K, he also wanted the strongest hardware... when this kind of coments should be regarding the Scorpio, not the One S, and both systems where just announced together, not released, and even gaming forum users are mixing them up...

Sony never had a more powerful console in the same gen like the Neo is supposed to be, release the Neo and a Slim together and people might very well mix what they want with what they are trying to buy, very, very easily, that would only backfire, even without confusion, releasing a cheaper device together with a more expensive and powerful one could eat up on sales from Neo right from the beginning before it can even get stable in the consumer mindset.
On top of already having another new PS device, the PSVR, coming together with the Neo already.

There is no reason for Sony to set up this against themselves, this year it'll be another price cut to the PS4 + the Neo and PSVR.

you may say it may confound people on wanting cheaper, keeping in the same specs or buying premium (what PS4Neo is aimed at), but not confusion about what they are.

But without the confusion of one having exclusives over the other (-:

Release a Neo this year that is a bit bigger than the ordinary PS4. Release a Neo slim next year that is a bit smaller than the ordinary PS4. Profit.

No, confusion on what they are, as well.
Someone may hear there is a new PS4 for 4K tvs, or something of the sort, likes it and go buy one, than he see a new model, different from the PS4, the Slim, thinks it's what he heard about and buy it.
Sony will definitely not release two new models together (close to each other).

If people can't differentiate between two products you better send they to pre-school... how can someone buy a car and choose the model and accessories, too much confusion.

If the person have internet, have different prices in the store and 2 brain cells I think they can perceive the difference between both versions, if not they would have a hard time even buying Neo over PS4 or different HD size on the consoles or cellphones.

You mean PC against X1S and what scorpio may see in the future?

To be fair, how much smaller could the PS4 actually get? Compared to the XBO it's an ant, and it's still even smaller than the XBOX One S... besides, with the way the PS4 is selling compared to the competition, they don't need a new model out anytime soon

Ps2 was a lot smaller than Xbox and sold even better than PS4 yet they done Slim.

It could be technically impossible (which I doubt, they have good engineers for that), but to say current sales make Slim impossible is not good reason. Not to overlap release of Neo would be a valid reason depending on how they want to phase their catalogue.
