Maybe not directly, but certainly indirectly it does. And I'm not sure on this, but haven't most Zelda games come out later in the console's life? TP pushed a lot of Wiis also, I think.

thats kind of my point. Traditionally they have been released either in the middle or toward the end of the life of the console, so at that point people's mind are already made up and people who were interested in Zelda would already have the system. So sure i guess its indirect(we cant know for sure either way, but ill agree anyway) but its not like a Mario or I would even say GTA back in the day where people are buying a system JUST for it. I think OOT was the last game where people truly bought a console for just Zelda and i could be wrong about that.

But if released at a console launch, it could drive a lot of hardware like TP  did on the Wii. I suspect NX is going to have a lot better launch sales than Wii u

IMHO TP didnt drive the HW I think it was the opposite. How much would have Wii sold without the motion controls? Not a lot I imagine. Zelda or not.

Edit: Now with that being said. I do think this new Zelda will drive sales of NX by simple virtue of it being the most high profile game being released. I dont think there will be anytthing at launch that comes even close.

Well Twilight Princes moved lotsa Wii consoles on launch, you can bet this Zelda will also move lotsa NX-s.

Was it Zelda?or was it just motion control Wii Sports in general? I'm going with the latter

Definatly Zelda moved lotsa Wii consoles also, casuals buyed Wii beacuse Wii Sports and motion controls but core gamers buyed Wii beacuse Zelda on launch. Wii Sports and Zelda TP were perfect laucnh combination, in same time they aimed and casuals and core gamers.

How do we know casuals didnt buy TP? Judging by how the series usually sells, I'm inclined to believe that a good chunk might have bought Zelda.

I think a more interesting question would be "How will BotW being on the NX affect its sales?", since, much like TP, most of the sales will go there most likely.

For some reason, I actually think it would have done very well for the Wii U if it had released last year. Just anecdotally, I've seen countless tweets, comments, posts, etc, of people saying something along the lines of "wow, the new Zelda looks amazing! Now I have to buy a Wii U!" Or, "why didn't I buy a Wii U sooner? The new Zelda looks incredible!" I presume the people saying these things don't realize that BotW is also releasing on NX. Who knows, maybe this means nothing, but I do kinda think there would have been a spike in Wii U sales if BotW released last year.

I think there is no doubt there would have been a spike in sales, particularly if it had come out before the NX was openly discussed by Nintendo and it would have created excitement in general-  everything except Splatoon has been very predictable as far as what Nintendo actually dd for the wii u-  All the things Nintendo did not do for the wii u were nt as predictable

I think it will help the launch window sales for sure-  how much will depend on what Nintendo has for the NX year 1

I think the NX will ultimately be a casual console aimed primarily at families/youth and more women but Nintendo will want to get those core Nintendo gamer fans in the barn as quick as possible so they can spend more focus on the casual/family market

Not much.

Every big Nintendo IP has been hyped here as the messiah for Wii U sales (first it was NSMB, then Super Mario 3D World, then Mario Kart 8, then Smash Brothers, then Splatoon).

Mario Kart 8 caused a modest 2 month bump in the West with a free game promotion.

Splatoon caused a OK hardware boost in Japan for a little while.

That was basically it. Sales levels for the machine were still consistently under the GameCube even with those bumps.

Some casual definitely buyed TP but most TP buyers were core gamers not casuals who actually buyed Wii on first place to play Wii Sports. Just to mention that on launch Zelda TP was sold everywhere.

It would have helped for sure, but I don't think the difference in hardware sales would be substantial.
