For real? That's fucking pathetic! There's no way companies should be able to trademark words and prevent others from using them. Why the fuck did the courts even allow this in the first place? And I'd love it if Hello Games now sued those bastards for harrasment, because that's what is it really.

Edit: Oh, and they really shouldn't have kept it secret this long. Shame those bastards, hopefully the bad PR would have done them some well deserved damage!

I read sky gets a small cut of every game sale to use the word Sky

This case is similar to Resident Evil. It was originally called Biohazard in Japan but they called Resident Evil in the west because the trademark was already taken.

The new game is called "Resident Evil: Biohazard" so that's OK I guess.

Was that the cause of the delay? I've not seen any real explanation for it.

Really didn't think such a common word could be owned, but I suspect if someone were to mention an apple in their game title they might face trouble too lol

*Edit* Btw, the more I think about it there was pretty much no chance they'd release this game while still dealing with this. They may have had other reasons for the delay, but that would have held it up either way

"However, as we approached our final deadlines, we realized that some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards. I have had to make the tough choice to delay the game for a few weeks to allow us to deliver something special."

They're probably telling the truth here, but the issue with the word "Sky" was probably very stressful on their team.

Yeah I imagine so. I definitely trust that they had polishing to do, but the danger of being told they can't use "No Man's Sky" or owe Sky money post-release definitely would have precluded a launch either way imo

Would have been super risky, at least, unless they were certain it'd go down the way it did.

Sky tv is apparently owned by a bunch of asshats.

I'm ready to send death threads to sky if i find out this had to do with the delay.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Well, Microsoft lost their SkyDrive lawsuit and had to change it to OneDrive.

Trademarks are sometimes very strange.

I think I'm going to trademark 'Jump' so every time someone uses it in a game, they have to pay me. ;)

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Looks like SKY let a few slip through the cracks. What a load of BS, not sure how you can pick and choose which you go after and have a legal battle lasting 3 years when there's 50 other games with the word in it you could point to for an example.

I think it's pretty obvious here that the only reason No Man's Sky got this problem is because Sky saw an oppertunity to make money of a game which will most likely be successful.
