My twist?

I speculated this but it fits here:

I think we'll be able to travel back to the past from a certain point in the game, since the future world we're in is in ruins and Link awakened from a tech-bed after 100 years sleeping. This goes in line with the "spoilery" nature of towns/villages, as Aonuma decided to not talk about them to not give spoilers (he said the way they worked was linked to the plot, so this would also explain his statement).

Of course I could be wrong, but with all of the above in mind, and other things such as the Ganon scene where he takes over the Castle, which probably happened in the past, as the current world is already in decay/ruins, give a strong sense that we'll be able to interact with time (or travel) somehow.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

That scene takes place in the current world it's in the demo and it's not him taking over the castle it's him trying to break out.

I didn't want to make a entire thread about this but it's also been speculated that the Shrines are named after each game developer that created BoTW. For Example:

Shrine Oman Au

If you rearrange it, you can spell Aonuma.

Oh god I never realized that, thats awesome!

About the twist: I think either time travel or something with the teased technology is likely, maybe even in combination.
If they want a big wild open world but also need towns etc. for story they could place the latter in the past and keep the world as wild and untamed as they've shown.

The new guy.

Sorry for possible mistakes, not a native speaker!

Imho link will go back in time, but he'll be able to explore only a small portion of the map in the past, a zone probably slightly bigger than the Plateau

It would be really interesting to see technology take over the overworld with a lot of points of no return

I could imagine that villages are destroyed and taken over as well

Link turns into a woman.

Old man is actually Old Link. We are a clone. He trains us to be able to go back to his time, do what he failed to do and stop the big bad.

There you go.

I'm expecting this to be like a sequel of some sort to Wind Waker.

Though pretty sure the lore involves those frozen spider robot things to have been an army attacking the land or something.

Yes, you're right, but still... that means he conquered it in the past and now is trying to scape/get out. So he did conquer the castle in the past indeed.
