Forums - Gaming - Eurogamer: Microsoft's mixed messages at E3 aren't pretty for Xbox One owners

Agree on Scorpio/Bone split, IMHO NEO can pull it off because the difference isn't as big, just Ultra settings/ higher/solid FPS on same games. But Scorpio's power seems to promise more... And yeah, that would kind of be wasted on simply running XBone games at native 4k but otherwise same FX/fps/etc.

But I'm kind of withdrawing further judgement just because neither MS nor Sony have now released much solid, and particularly Sony's lack of info, or even PR, seems to clash with expectations of holiday launch this year for NEO. If they were, doesn't NEO need to be publicized, likewise so they can publicize NEO game experiences for holiday? But hey, nothing doesn't necessarily mean anything , so let's give it a wait and see...

Yea I honestly don't like what I'm hearing lately. While I like backwards compatibility now I kind of feel like I'm stuck with one console maker. I liked the freedom of being able to swtich sides whenever a new gen started. Then again it's not like MS has been exciting when it comes to software so I really didn't have a big urge to do that but with them releasing such a powerful system it is interesting. Then again PC's are so powerful and devs just end up gimping the PC version to be able to make it on par with PS4 and X1 so I could see the same happening to Scorpio.

Either way like you I'm waiting until things are more offical before i start making any decisions.

A $300 video game console is a cheapskate gift?

It'll be $199 by next year. Compared to $600, yes.

If they want a PS4, fuck Neo. They are getting the baby version.

It probably won't be. There's a decent chance that they drop the 500 gb model and leave the 1 TB model as the $299 base model.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Yet, it's still cheaper than $600

This reminds me a lot of the launch also.

I had this problem before launch with the X1. I was set to buy 2 of the same console right away this generation because I wanted to go mostly digital on the games that I could coop but not couch coop on with my son.

Meaning I wanted to buy the game once and have family share to play with my son, him upstairs and myself down. What happened? All the nonsense back and forth on X1 was ridiculous. I got an email that I was losing my family share live plan and now I could pay $60 per yer per person or for me an increase from $99 to $240. What the heck??

Even worse I saw an article that game share would be gone except on the same machine. Meaning yes I could buy digital and my son could play it but only on the one console. I even called support for clarification only to be told that I could not digitally share my games via two consoles in the same home.

After this I saw another article of Sony stating we will let you share your games and even released an FAQ on how to do it. By this point I was so frustrated I just canceled X1 preorders and swapped to ps4's.

At the end of it all I see youtube videos after release of people doing what I wanted. Confused message can definitely hurt sales. This whole thing of fergussen stating the slim will make games better then another exec saying no it wont and spencer stating different things for the scorpio smacks of the exact same weird messaging. Can they not just have a meeting and get a clear message to give out?

I get the feel that there is just to many cooks in the kitchen when it comes to MS and their Xbox division. A game dev seemed to imply the same thing when he was talking about his experience with MS and Fable Legends.

It is even more bizarre because you would think they would have been keen on a clear and concise message after the x1 launch.

As I said earlier Scorpio is likely to be a kneejerk reaction to when news about Neo broke out so they rushed out a response with the direction not being clear yet. That's the only reason I can really think of for this, launch was likely they had one vision and when it was clear it was going to hurt them they had to drop it and go for another path they didn't plan for.

Someone told me they were going to buy the new powerful xbox scorpio this year, Xbox One S.

You might be right about that.  However, it does not make it less frustrating.

I can see why this must be frustrating for Xbox One owners. I don't get how MS went from an amazing platform like the 360 was 2-3 after launch to the Xbox One situation today. I think they have been unsure about the direction they want to go with Xbox and that's why we are getting these mixed signals.

I didn't read the whole thing but I get the idea. I do agree that MS' messaging was confusing. They have 100% risked cannibalising the sales of the Xbox One S.

Having said that, I think they had their hands tied. If they did not announce anything more powerful and then Sony announces the Neo, consumers will be under the impression that MS is going nowhere and Sony is already moving forward with more powerful devices.

Instead, MS made a preemptive strike which if it works, will have consumers think 'Scorpio looks better than Neo, maybe I'll wait and not get the Neo'. So, MS have cannibalised their Xbox One S sales but I think they have proactively done the same to Neo's. Only time will tell.

At this point no body cares anymore wich console is more powerfull, Playstation simply have all the 3rd party suport in the word and an impressive line up of exclusives. If anyone want to upgrade to Neo or Scropio they will most likely choose the Neo (and if the rumors are tru the Neo launches before the Scorpio wich would be even worse for MS). Most ppl wont bother with neither one of those consoles tough.

1) Release a new slim, tell people you have a better console comeing in a year (like 30minutes after)
2) Dont have a 4k TV, Scorpio wont do anything for you.
3) Scorpio wont have any exlusives. Then afterwards, scorpio will have exlusives.
4) Scorpio will be 4k, then afterwards "its up to devs, they can make 1080p for it".

MS is all over the place.

Sony atleast is decent at communicating their message.
