I don't watch lets players, because I see absolutely no goddamn reason to do so. Its a waste of my precious time, when I could, you know, actually be playing the game myself.

1. Trying to be funny but fails
2. Screaming for LITERALLY EVERYTHING
3. Talking all the time. Like damn, no one cares what you ate for breakfast.
4. Creating cancerous Fandoms
5. Typically fail at playing the game
6. This one is hard to explain. You know how people like mark have themselves visible with the background showing? Well, some people cUT out the background, which makes it look absolutely horrendous.
The only time I don't care if someone talks during playing is if it's someone like Leafyishere. The game isn't the main thing, which doesn't make me annoyed if he's talking about something completely different

You mean those that don't use greenscreen?

This for me too, if I have time for gaming I'll go and play games, I have a backlog of around 1k games to work on, don't really find the time to watch someone else play games.
Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

If you look at big let's plays like TLOU or UC4, you'll see a huge drop off of views after the first episode. Part of that will be lack of interest but a lot of it will be because people have watched the first episode to help them decide whether they'd like the game or not. I watched about 25 FULL let's plays for TLOU (played it myself 11 times) and the reason was to see their reactions to certain moments in gameplay and scenes. |
I did the same with the last of us, just not that many times xD. For the most part I find let's plays pointless as entertainment, I also watch the first episode for games I'm interested in but that's it.

I usually watch LetsPlays of games that I have no intention to play but still want to know the story. A commented lets play is great for those narrative driven, little gameplay games.
1. Click-baity thumbnails featuring big dumb faces
2. Asking for likes (I'm looking at you RadBrad)
3. Talking through a cutscene.

The only letsplays I've watched (if they're even called that) is from Nerd Cubed, fumbling through obscure and other simulation games. It's an innocent form of schadenfreude, watch someone else mess up. That was when I was playing Elite Dangerous a lot, that game needs extra entertainement on the side. Story ones leave me cold though, much better things to watch than a video game story. I did watch the ending of FF12 though, since my memory card got corrupted on the way to the final dungeon. I much prefer a written walkthrough with pictures over video for tips and when I get stuck.
My kids can't get enough of them however. Minecraft, pokemon, lego anything, unwrapping weird japanese candy even. I don't get it, generation gap. I guess that's what drives me nuts about let's players, hearing them every day over an iPad or GamePad while my kids have plenty games to play themselves instead. Right now my 6 year old is watching DanTDM reacting to his own old videos, letsplayception :/ At least the other one is watching Inside out, better.
