Forums - Gaming - How can each of the big 3 improve?

Nintendo needs to buy and create more studios, they are way too old to be as small as they are and their software output this gen suffered because of it. Seriously why don't they own platinum yet or mistwalker or shin'en or wayforward or playtonic or yacht club, why haven't they hired Yuki naka yet he could really use a good publisher and a decent budget. Why didn't they buy lionsgate or ready at dawn or atlus. They just need to expand and quickly

Great point. I've said that before.

If not own them, they should've made exclusivity deals with some of the larger indies. Shinen, Wayforward, Yacht Club and Image and Form are all very popular indies who clearly do have a preference for Nintendo.

It'd surely be quite cheap to pay them to remain exclusive. Whereas at the moment, most of them also release on other platforms.

What's the perspective? "Things I want from Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo," or , "Things Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo can do to become more successful overall"?

Regardless, I'm skipping Nintendo. That's robust enough for its own thread.

Sony - First, they need to change the Playstation slogan to "Playstation: We Do Less Things Wrong."

Microsoft - They need some new high-level IP and they need to stop letting the business people dictate the creation of new games. That's the role of the people who actually create things for a living. Let them develop the best game they can, not the best game that also hits all the mandated bullet points.

Sony: Free up MP, improve the Plus lineup, finish catching up with the PS3's functionality and don't throw it all away if and when PS5 comes around, make digital competitively priced with physical, maybe make the DS5 an evolved hybrid suitable for both traditional and VR gameplay (with IR sensors and better battery instead of bright lights). If you do make another handheld (unlikely), make its controls fully functional, give it proper first party support (even if it's just expanded crossbuy), and piss off with proprietary storage and crap. BC, more dedicated servers, PSN ID changes.

MS: Stop forcing an ulterior agenda down our throats, be it Kinect, TV, always online, Windows 10, DX12, whathaveyou. Grow and diversify your first party lineup and try not to sabotage or bastardize once great studios. Assuming you're not going to scrap it like GFWL, keep your word and massively reform UWP from its draconian origins. Just stop trying to pull all this sneaky crap. Free up MP, too.

Nin: Don't let gimmicks and old blood override competitive features and sound decision making. I'd be fine if you just doubled down on your handheld and mostly got out of the home console space where you tend to struggle commercially. If not, it really needs to be powerful enough to accommodate third parties. You like creative hardware, but don't let it get in the way of fundamental control and game design. Bring back long requested IP's in respectful ways and keep making new ones. Catch up with MP infrastructure and throw in some achievements, too. Don't pander to the casuals too much. Maybe inject more personality into your mascots and storytelling into your games.

Valve: Properly release Source 2, make some games again, and scrap Greenlight.

Steam/Origin-like refunds all around would be nice, too.

Sony: Those old IPs. Why I have always loved PS is because of their steady stream of new IPs every generation. But thats also the bad thing about sony, they just abandon some IPs that still have tons of potential. Legend of dragoon, Jak, Wipeout, Socom.....

Nintendo: Go third party, if Nintendo were to focus just on releasing games for everyone, they stand to be the best publisher on the planet period. And would probably make more money than any publisher.

MS: Classic case of jack of all trades master of none. They keep trying to sink their claws into everything and end up not being really good at anything. Its something the suffer for across everything they are into. Just leaving a trail of missed opportunities. That aside, maybe its just me, but the thought of MS dominating the console space scares me shitless. Just imagine MS were in the position Sony is in right now...... scary.

If you're Nintendo stop making home consoles and stick to handhelds.

Sega owns Atlus now, but yeah. I don't know if they should buy Playtonic.....yet. It would be nice, considering it'd be like the Nintendo X Rare days (helps that most Playtonic staff are ex-Rare).

When playtonic goes up for sales, they ll be taken fast.

Its the old rare... theres still magic there, and yooka laylee looks amasing.

Atlus goes for sale? sega would never sell it.... if it does get sold I hope sony grabs it.

Atlus actually was up for grabs about 3 or 4 years ago and word was spreading around that Nintendo was a potential buyer but obviously that never went happened

OK

1- Nintendo
- Should not have a console that's lacking tech (in smartphones U don't release a 3G device while others are releasing 4G) fix their online store, Online playing and try and have dedicated online multiplayer games
- I can see them achieving something if they work closely with western 3rd parties, they should have exclusives like they have in Japan (monster hunter, Yukai watch, Hyurile warriors, Pokken tournament, Dragon Quest, ...ETC)
- After that not missing out on the big names (GTA, FIFA, COD, Minecraft, Madden, ...ETC)

2- Micro
- Their 1st party games needs to improve and have a larger selection
- so far they are doing alright but it's the start of the genre they lost and they couldn't amend
- I thought more exclusives from 3rd party could benefit them also (Dead rising, Titanfall, ...ETC)

3- Sony
- Well it's really hard to tell Sony what to do, they are playing it right at the moment, But I wish they invest more in Japan studio titles
- Also I hope they won't kill the handheld department, even though I know they should

Sony needs to stop ignoring the Vita and bundle a PSTV with every PS4 purchase.

Sony:

Good bundles. PS4 had such limited choice of bundles compared to XB1. I could only pick one up with UC NDC (which I didn't want) cause that and SW BF and COD BO 3 were my only choices. A God of War III R + Bloodborne or Infamous Second Son bundle would have been way better.

Related to this, stop having only ND games in your bundles from first party. I hope they have a Horizon bundle with PS4 Neo this holiday.

Bring back the variety of first party output from PS3 days. In PS3 times Sony was at their best in terms of first party output.

Better PSN. They charge for multiplayer on PSN yet its not as good as Steam which is free. Improve PSN Sony.

Better marketing. Other than some key titles Sony doesn't market their own games. Even if they are of high quality Sony only gives attention to few of their devs. Give them the attention they deserve and let third parties market their own games.

Microsoft:

Have more unique IP's and less shooters. More Forza Horizon 2 and Scalebound less Halo and Gears and Quantum Break. I don't mind shooters as I really enjoy them but more variety is needed.

Nintendo:

Powerful hardware is much needed. A normal controller would be good.

Bigger variety of first party games. They have too many platformers and very little of anything else. Also some arcade racers that are not kart racers.

More big budget games. For a console that relies only on first party games there is a dearth of AAA high quality exclusives on Wii U. Its about on par with PS4 and XB1 which have third party support too.

More Bayonetta 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles X less Mario Party and Captain Toad and Paper Mario and Fatal Frame. Yes they need to step up their first party lineup, the Wii U's library is quite unappealing.
