Why are Nintendo fans so obsessed with the power of the NX? Isn't the performance of the Wii U enough?

With a new gen its also natural to want more power. Wii U was fine when they were making Wii U games (which was sometime 2 years ago) but if they want us to buy a new console, it better give us something, and power is just the default.

Emily Rogers say it's gonna be around the same level of Xbone if not lower, so maybe 1Teraflopz console.

I think the gpu might be the unannounced low end R7 440 or R7 450, consistent in Nintendos very low power usage and cheap philosophy.

A Radeon 440/450 is likely to be a rebadged GPU from the last 4+ years and not Polaris. The only new chips this round is the Radeon 480 and 470 series.

Polaris 11 should be the sucessor to the Radeon 7850/7870/265/270/370 chips.
Below that line expect Bonair and Oland to be repurposed/rebadged, maybe a sprinkling of Cape Verde... Which means Xbox One levels.

The rumor about VR also suggested that it's a handheld though, albeit a large one. I can't see Nintendo topping 600 gflops with a 5-7inch handheld. But, it is possible that Nintendo will release their patented Supplemental Computing Device alongside it, allowing people to boost it's graphics capability in "console mode" above PS4/XB1, but I don't know if a SCD could boost it all the way up to Neo level.

Mobile chips are already exceeding 600Gflop.
Tegra X1 is doing 1024Gflop.

nVidia's Tegra X1 successor will also get a drop down to 16nm and will have a Pascal derived GPU and should step things up again, probably considerably.

But... Just because a mobile device is doing 1 Teraflop, doesn't mean it can be compared to the Xbox One in terms of graphics or performance, they render things differently, have different memory subsystems, completely different CPU ISA, memory amounts, the works.

I'm thinking it uses Polaris 11. This would fit with the low wattage profile. Plus it could end up close to 3 TFs which is higher than ps4. As for VR, I think that is a false rumor. Although I think that with Polaris 11 I think it could handle it.

Doubt it.

Emily rogers says that the gpu is not polaris and nvidia is in their future, but as far as I know, Nvidia didn't announce any custom chip for their future. so, she's full of shit.

nVidia would be under NDA. Nintendo typically despises releasing technical information, ever.

I think it will be as powerfull as the Xbox One, it will use ARM architecture to get mobile multiplats and to make the handheld and console compatible. The launch price should be 200$ at this point, maybe it will be cheap enough to ad another gamepad again as technology progresses

It doesn't need to be an ARM chip in order to get mobile multiplatforms, Intel processors are perfectly capable of running Android and thus the entire  Android software ecosystem using a few tricks such as Binary Translation.

I really hope that Nintendo targets a 399 Euro price and deliver a 4-6 TF Home Console :)

Even if it only had 64Mb of Ram?

More to performance than just how many Teraflops it has.

*****

For me personally, if I want power I'll stick to PC gaming.
What I want for Nintendo to do is drop the silly controller gimmicks and I will be onboard.

If they're not going to compete on power then they kinda have to have some kind of gimmick by default.

The audience for a middlingly powered Nintendo console several years behind other comparable machines with just Nintendo games as the hook will have a small niche audience of enthusiast gamers/Nintendo faithful and that's it.

Ummm if it is using AMD Rx480.... It wipes the floor with the Neo-PS4 and likely beats the rumored Scorpio specs. We can't take anything for CPU related though.

Also I doubt the Scorpio rumored specs are true. Console leaked specs are never true and the Xbox One was nearly 2-3 times weaker than it's rumored specs. The PS4 was weaker than one of it's rumoured specs, and more powerful than the other. Back when it was rumored to be called the "Orbis".

Can people stop referencing Emily Rogers? It kind of makes you look like someone that believes everything they read on the internet. Especially form people who've been caught as lairs.

It's relative, guess it depends on how one defines weak or strong. I think it'll be somewhere around mediocre, likely around the same level as a PS4 or Xone, if they want any sort of competitive pricing, they can't aim much higher than that and they should have learned their lesson on taking losses as well by now.
At least it seems they've abandoned the archaic solutions of the 7th and 8th gens, this in and on itself will cheapen the process greatly.

Does relly needs so much power!? Wii U GPU is only somwhere betwint 0.178-0.350 TF and delivers beatifule games.

IMO best you can hope is 2TF, but most likly around 1.5TF.

Personally I am really okay with the poswer of the Wii U, Nintendo did in my opinon awesome games with it. But 3rd Party want more power to create their games :)

Nah it will be weak I think. But that's just my opinion

I still think it'll flop, but that's just imo. I hope i'm wrong though.

If Nvidia making custom cheap just for them they don't need to announce, especially because NX is not revealed yet.

It would be in the shareholders reports as a custom win of some sort, these are things you can't keep underwraps from shareholders.

We have to know what is NX... HH or HC or both ?
If it's HH, it will use ARM.. And that's means lots of exclusifs games..
If it's HC and use ARM, it's means more exclusifs games stratégy too
If it's HC and use X86, it would looking for third editors... And could be powerfull
If it's HH and HC, it's very difficult to say... HH powerfull and little HC ? Or little HH and powerfull HC ? If it's hybrid, which will be get in front ? Portability or HC gimmick ?
