It can easily have and some sort of home base while handheld controller can be used also like totally standalone handheld.

I don't really believe it. I don't think they are going to invest much in VR, when they could push the shared library and other safer features.

I think this is akin to saying 3D graphics or online play won't do anything for video games. |
Iam pretty sure if console have VR you want be forced to use it.

Well maybe VR will be sold separate same like PSVR.

Shrugs, could be cheap-ish VR with some kind of toy-like gimmick attached to it. The Samsung Gear VR is only $100 if you have a Samsung phone, if NX has an LCD display as one of its components, it's possible they might be doing something similar.

If this is true then they're more than likely going for a toy VR approach. I don't think that it would be worth it. All those add ons would impact price and manufacturing costs. They were already criticized for Wii U and their controller gimmick. Doing the exact same thing would be a death sentence.

The description given makes it sound like the screen is seperate from the controller or attached to the system itself, I see something more like a portable "game terminal" from what they're saying.

Though the Samsung Gear VR is pretty cheap, I mean it's sold at $100, but it probably only costs Samsung like $20-$30 to manufacture.
$299.99 for a mobile console w/some form of cheap VR ... I mean, maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. The PS4 + VR will still cost like $700 so maybe Nintendo figures they can get people who want some of that but for cheap.

It just seems a bit desperate. Taking time of the developement of your console to push a technology that has not been proven profitable in the long run yet and might not even be accepted by Nintendo's audience seems like a really big miscalculation. The NX needs as much developement time as it can alone, focus on it first.
If true I think there was an internal war inside Nintendo on the direction of the NX, and Miyamoto's camp lost, since Miyamoto hasn't been very enthusiastic about VR.

They can easily have SKUs without VR and sell VR also standalone.
